TURLOCK, Calif.---- Stan State's rally from a 2-1 deficit fell short this evening at The Fitzpatrick Arena as the Warriors lost in five sets (21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 11-15) to the visiting Cal Poly Lumberjacks.
Emily Vander Weide,
Ellison Weaver, and
Mariah Iosua combined for 33 kills for the Warriors to go along with
Gabby Rawson's 30 digs.
FIRST SET: Stan State (5-6, 0-3 CCAA) recorded the first seven points of the match capped by back-to-back service aces by
Gabby Rawson. The Lumberjacks cut the Warrior lead to 13-9, but the Warriors scored the next two points and took a 15-9 lead on a kill by
Emily Vander Weide. The visitor's tied the match at 17-17 led by two kills by Awelina Fakalata. A kill by
Ellison Weaver gave Stan State the 19-17 lead, Humboldt recorded six of the final ten points to take the first set 25-21 capped by back-to-back kills by Lindsey McLaughlin.
SECOND SET: The hosts took an 8-4 lead on a kill by
Autumn Kirby off an assist from
Mariah Iosua. Stan State took a 17-11 lead on a kill by
Isabella Saucedo off an assist from
Eyriana Eatmon. A combined block by
Alex Byrd and
Emily Vander Weide increased the hosts' lead to 21-13. A Lindsay McLaughlin cut the Warrior lead to 24-20, but it was a little too late as
Ellison Weaver's kill gave the Warriors the 25-20 set two win and evened the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: Cal Poly Humboldt (4-7, 1-2) jumped out to a 10-4 lead on a kill by Kyra Slavik. A
Mariah Iosua kill off an assist from
Haley Burdo, cut the 'Jack lead to 13-10. An Awelina Fakalata kill increased the guests' lead to 17-11, but the Warriors recorded the next four points to cut the deficit to 17-15. Stan State got back-to-back service aces from
Autumn Kirby to cut Humboldt's lead to 20-19. Humboldt came right back and scored the next five points to take the set 25-19 and a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: The next set was even until the Warriors took a 16-10 lead on another
Autumn Kirby service ace. Back-to-back kills by
Mariah Iosua and
Alex Byrd increased the Warrior lead to 18-11. An
Ellison Weaver kill increased the hosts' lead to 20-12. A Neriah Tualaulelei-Maleie service ace cut the Warrior lead to 21-17. A kill by Awelina Fakalata cut the hosts' lead to just one (23-22). Stan State finished the set off recording two of the final three points including the set point on a kill by
Emily Vander Weide, 25-23, and to even the match at 2-2.
FIFTH SET: Cal Poly Humboldt took an 8-3 lead in the fifth and final set. Back-to-back kills by
Autumn Kirby and
Ellison Weaver cut the 'Jack lead to 8-7. Humboldt finished off the set and match recording seven of the final eleven points to take the set 15-11 and match 3-2.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Mariah Iosua recorded her second double-double of the season and third of her career this evening. Iosua had 18 digs and 10 kills for the Warriors.
MOVIN' ON UP: Gabby Rawson moved up to eighth on the Warriors' career list with 825 digs with her thirty this evening.
Haley Burdo is eighth in assists with 1364.
WARRIOR LEADERS: Emily Vander Weide had 12 kills with
Ellison Weaver with 11 and
Mariah Iosua with 10.
Haley Burdo had 34 assists to go with
Eyriana Eatmon's 12.
Autumn Kirby had four service aces while
Gabby Rawson had 30 digs.
UP NEXT: Stan State will continue its home stand tomorrow at 2pm when the Warriors host Sonoma State. The Seawolves defeated Chico State in four sets this evening in Chico.
