TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State battled wire to wire with the visiting No. 5 Chico State Wildcats this evening in a non-conference match-up at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors lost 3-2 to the undefeated Chico State Wildcats.
Tyler Tipton and
Sammy Villanueva each scored goals for the Warriors. Villanueva,
Ryan Rosas and
Finn Hoffmann each assisted on the Stan State two goals.
FIRST HALF: Adrian Fontanelli gave the visitors the early 1-0 when he connected on a penalty kick in just the seventh minute. The Warriors had two chances to tie the match in the 18
th minute, but Emanuel Padilla stopped both
Alecxander Cuellar and
Tyler Tipton's shot on goal attempt. Stan State (3-4) tied the match at 1-1 in the 27
th minute as Tipton connected on his team high seventh goal off a through ball by
Sammy Villanueva. Chico State came right back and took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Miles Rice off a double assist by Dawson White and Jacob Burnison in the 31
st minute. The Wildcats had a chance to double their lead, but
Robby Rosas stopped Preston Moll's shot on goal attempt to send the match into the half with Chico State (7-0) leading 2-1.
SECOND HALF: In just five minutes into the second half, Stan Sate tied the match at 2-2 on
Sammy Villanueva's first goal of the season off a double assist by
Ryan Rosas and
Finn Hoffmann. Stan State had a chance to take a 3-2 lead int the 53
rd minute when
Leonardo Muniz's shot sailed over the goal. Two minutes, the hosts had two chances sail over the top of the goal or to the left off the feet of Hoffman and
Kekoa Kiesling. In the 58
th minute, Preston Moll scored the go-ahead goal for the Wildcats off a ball from Adrian Fontanelli. Stan State had three chances in the 83
rd minute including
Marco Carbajal's shot on goal attempt which was stopped by the Wildcats' Emanuel Padilla as Chico State took the 3-2 victory.
SEVENTH GOAL. Tyler Tipton connected on his team leading and CCAA leading seventh goal of the season this evening when he scored on a ball from
Sammy Villanueva. For the week, Tipton scored three goals to key the Warriors' 1-1 weekend.
BROKE THE STREAK: Stan State's two goals were the first two goals scored against Chico State in the Wildcats' first seven matches of the season.
STATS: Chico State out-shot the Warriors 16-14 including six-to-five in shot on goal attempts.
Robby Rosas and Emanuel Padilla each had three saves in goal for their respective teams. Stan State held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will continue their season-long five-match home stand when they begin their CCAA season. Stan State will host Cal State San Marcos this Friday, September 29 on Student Affairs Night at 4:30pm. The Warriors will end their home stand with an 11:30am starting match with Cal State East Bay on Sunday, October 1.
