Stan State Falls on Late Goal to Chico State

TURLOCK, Calif.---   The visiting Chico State Wildcats scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in this evening's non-conference match-up with Stan State to give them the 2-1 victory.  Abby Martinez scored the Warriors' goal on a cross by Alexis Brewah with a little over five minutes left in the game. 
 
FIRST HAFLF:  Haylee Heffner saw her chance to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute be stopped by Chico State's Peyton Johnson.  Seven minutes later, Stan State had another chance for the early 1-0 lead but Aliah Avila's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Johnson.  In the 21st minute, Chico State (5-2), took the 1-0 lead on a goal by Avery Pieri off a ball form Piper Matson.  Alexis Brewah looked like she was going to tie the match at 1-1 for the Warriors in the 31st minute, but Johnson snagged another shot on goal attempt.  Johnson stopped Sabrina Cabrera's shot on goal attempt in the 33rd minute to send the match into the half with Chico State leading 1-0.
 
SECOND HALF:  Stan State (3-3-1) had another chance early in the second half, but Sabrina Cabrera's shot sailed wide of the goal.  In the 61st minute, the hosts had another chance to tie the match when Makeila Yancey's shot sailed right of the goal.  Natalia Ochoa stopped Brynn Howard's chance of doubling the lead for Chico State in the 65th minute.  Alexis Brewah had another chance for the match tying goal, but Johnson stopped the Warriors' attempt in the 72nd minute.  With six less than six minutes left, the Warriors tied the match at 1-1 when Abby Martinez connected on a through ball from Brewah.  Chico State came right back and took the 2-1 lead for good when Hannah Pieri connected on a ball from Avery Pieri in the 86th minute.  Stan State had a final chance to tie the match when Ycela Ochoa's shot was stopped by Johnson.
 
BREWAH:  Alexis Brewah had her second assist of the season and 11th of her career on a pass to Abby Martinez this evening.  For her career, Brewah has 13 goals and 11 assists.
 
SHARING TIME:  The Warrior duo of Malia Allen and Natalia Ochoa shared time in goal once again for Stan State.  Allen had one save and gave up one goal in the first half. Ochoa had two saves and gave up one goal in the second half.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will begin CCAA play this weekend when the Warriors host Cal State San Marcos and Cal State East Bay.  The Warriors will face Cal State San Marcos at 7pm on Friday, September 29 on Student Affairs Night.  They will end their three-match home stand in a 2pm match against Cal State East Bay on Kick Cancer Match on Sunday, October 1.
