Warriors Swept by Nationally Ranked Broncos

 POMONA, Calif.--- The fourteenth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (12-1, 5-0 CCAA) swept this afternoon conference match with the visiting Stan State Warriors (15, 25, 16-25, 11-25) at Kellogg Arena in Pomona, Calif. 
 
FIRST SET:  Cal Poly Pomona jumped out to a 12-6 lead to open the match in the first set.  A Daisy Duke kill increased the Broncos' lead to 18-7.  An Isabella Saucedo ace cut the deficit to 19-11.  The Broncos finished out the set recording seven of the final 15 points to take the first set 25-15.  
 
SECOND SET:  The second set was back and forth until the Broncos took a 10-4 lead on a Daisy Duke kill.  Back-to-back kills by Ellison Weaver and Mariah Iosua cut the Bronco lead to 11-9. The hosts came right back and took a 19-12 lead.  A kill by Weaver and a service ace by Autumn Kirby cut the Warrior deficit to 19-14.  The Broncos recorded the next three points to increase their lead to 22-14.  Two kills by Samaya Royal and Isabella Saucedo made it 23-16 Broncos, but the hosts recorded the final two points to take the second set 25-16 and as they took a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
THIRD SET:  A Jenna O'Shea service capped a 11-1 beginning of the third set for the Broncos.  They increased their lead to 14-2 on a kill by Caitie Mueller.  Stan State (6-7, 1-4 CCAA) recorded the next four points capped by an Ellison Weaver service ace.  A kill by Madison Novak increased the hosts' lead to 20-8.  Cal Poly Pomona took five of the next eleven points to take the set 25-11 and the match 3-0.
 
WARRIOR LEADERS:  Alex Byrd had five kills in ten attempts for a .500 hitting percentage while Mariah Iosua had four kills.  Haley Burdo paced the Warriors with ten assists and Gabby Rawson recorded 12 digs.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will continue its four-match road trip tomorrow afternoon at 3pm, when the Warriors travel to San Marcos for another CCAA match-up with Cal State San Marcos. The Cougars defeated Chico State in four sets (12-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-20).
