Women’s Soccer to Host Southern Oregon and Dominican in Home Openers

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After starting the regular season in Oregon over Labor Day Weekend, Stan State will have its home opener this weekend September 8 and 10.  The Warriors will host Southern Oregon this Friday, September 8 at 7pm and Dominican on Sunday, September 10 at 6pm. 
 
POSTER NIGHT:  Friday's match with the Penguins will be Poster Night as the Warriors will sign poster for children in attendance after the conclusion of the match. 
 
HEAD COACH GABRIEL BOLTON:  In his 19th season at the helm of the Warriors, Bolton is 194-104-38. Last season, the Warriors went 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-2 in the CCAA and were CCAA co-regular season champions.  Alexis Brewah was the 2022 CCAA Newcomer of the Year and Sabrina Cabrera was the CAA Midfielder of the Year.  Brewah and Cabrera each were named to the First Team All-CCAA and the All-Region Team.  Four Warriors were selected to the Honorable Mention Team in Alexia Estrada, Summer England, Sunny Mancilla, and Jocelyn Lopez.  In 2013, Bolton was named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year and the CCAA Coach of the Year.  He is the Warriors Women's Soccer All-Time Winningest Coach. 
 
Bolton has guided the Warriors to nine postseason appearances, including four NCAA Tournaments and nine California Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournaments. He led the program to an unprecedented seven consecutive post-season appearances from 2010-16, including two CCAA Tournament titles and the 2014 NCAA West Region Championship.
 
WARRIORS IN OREGON:  Stan State went 0-1-1 to begin the 2023 season in Monmouth, Ore.  The Warriors lost 1-0 to Western Oregon and played to a scoreless draw with Saint Martin's.  Stan State's defense allowed just 0.50 goals a game last week.  The goalkeeper duo of Natalia Ochoa and Malia Allen shared time in goal for the Warriors.  Ochoa posted a 0.833 saves percentage with a 0.87 goals against average and five saves in 103 minutes.  Allen recorded a 0.00 goals against average with a 1.000 saves percentage with two saves in 77 minutes.
 
SOUTHERN OREGON: The Raiders, who are affiliated with the NAIA and a member of the Cascade Conference, are 3-2 heading into Friday evening's contest with the Warriors.  Iniana Hammond and Makaila Quigley each have scored two goals apiece for Southern Oregon.  Four different players each have an assist this season.  Ashlynn Hernandez has posted a 0.80 goals against average with 34 saves and a .895 saves percentage and two shutouts.  The Warriors lead the all-tie series with Southern Oregon 5-0 including defeating the Raiders 1-0 in 2021.
 
DOMINICAN:  The Penguins, who are a member of the PacWest Conference and affiliated with the NCAA Division II, are 1-1 entering its Thursday's match at Cal Poly Humboldt.  Dominican started the season with a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills and lost 1-0 to Simon Fraser over Labor Day weekend.  Miranda Gregory and Alison McNeal each have scored a goal for the Penguins.  Carmi Dotario has their assist.  Rylee Buessing has posted a 0.50 goals against average with a .800 saves percentage and a shoutout.  She has four saves entering their match with Humboldt on Thursday. Stan State leads the all-time series with Dominican 6-0-1.  The two teams played to a 2-2 draw last season in Turlock.  Alisha Garcia and Alexis Brewah each scored goals for Stan State.  Brewah had an assist for the Warriors.
 
PICKED TO WIN THE CCAA:  Stan State women's soccer is picked to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) according to the 2023 CCAA Preseason Women's Soccer Poll that was released by the conference office today.  The Warriors, under the direction of head coach Gabriel Bolton, received four of the twelve first place votes.
