Warriors Fall at Chico State to Begin Road Trip

CHICO, Calif.---  Chico State (10-4, 6-2 CCAA) outscored Stan State 34-20 in the first half to key its 75-57 victory over the Warriors.  Mya Blake led the way for the Warriors with a game high 20 points.  Joia Armstrong chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, and two assists for Stan State. 
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Jiana Creswell's lay-up gave Chico State an early 17-6 lead in the first seven minutes of the game.  Stan State (10-8, 5-3 CCAA) finished the half on a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to 17-10 capped by a Mya Blake lay-up.    
 
SECOND QUARTER:  Talia Maxwell's coast-to-coast lay-up cut the hosts' lead to 17-12 in the  first two minutes of the second quarter.  Stella Rollo's lay-up capped a Chico State 7-0 run to increase the Wildcats' lead to 24-12.  The Warriors came back and scored four points including two on an Aunika Hornung lay-up off a pass from Joia Armstrong to cut the deficit to 24-16.  Once again, Chico State increased its lead to double-digits (28-18) with three minutes left in the half.  Another Maxwell coast-to-coast lay-up made it Chico 28-20, but the Wildcats finished the half on a 6-2 run to take a 34-20 lead into the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  Taylor Pilot's two free throws cut the Warrior deficit to 36-27 in the first four minutes of the third quarter.  Chico State went on a 20-10 run to take a 56-37 lead with just 25 seconds left in the quarter.  A May Blake lay-up made it Wildcats 56-39 heading into the fourth quarter.    
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  Chico State opened the fourth quarter outscoring the Warriors 9-6 to take a 65-45 lead in the first three minutes of the final quarter.  The hosts increased their lead to 71-48 with just 4:03 left in regulation.  Stan State finished the game on a 9-2 run capped by a Mya Blake trey to make the final Chico State 73-57. 
 
JUST MISSED A DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Joia Armstrong just missed a double-double this evening with 11 points and eight rebounds.  Armstrong added two assists and two blocked shots. 
 
20-POINT GAME:  Mya Blake had her third-twenty-point game this evening.  She went nine-for-17 from the field including making two treys.  Blake added four rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocked shot.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State continues its road trip on Saturday, January 18 for a 5:30pm game with Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata.  The Lumberjacks defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 64-63 this evening in Arcata.  The Warriors will return home on Thursday, Jan. 20 for a 5:30pm scheduled game with Cal Poly Pomona at The Fitz on Stan State Student Affairs/Rotary Night.
