ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt held Stan State to just 24% shooting from the field to key the 'Jacks 61-52 victory over the Warriors.
Mya Blake paced the visitors with 15 points. Stan State returns to the court this Thursday, January 18 at 5:30pm when the Warriors host Cal Poly Pomona on Rotary/Stan State Student Affairs Night at The Fitz.
FIRST QUAFTER: Cal Poly Humboldt (7-6, 5-4 CCAA) scored the first eight points of the game to take an 8-0 lead just three minutes into the quarter. The 'Jacks increased their lead to 18-8 on a Sara Ahmadpour jumper. The Warriors finished the quarter on a 7-0 run capped by a
Mya Blake trey to cut the deficit to 18-15 heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: Another
Mya Blake trey cut the 'Jack lead to 20-18 in the first two minutes of the second quarter. The hosts increased their lead to 25-18 on an Emilia Long lay-up at the 6:55 mark of the quarter.
Aunika Hornung's free throw with 3:20 to go in the half capped a 6-0 run by the Warriors as they cut Humboldt's lead to 25-24. Humboldt took a 27-24 lead into the locker room on a Marley Johnson fast-break lay-up.
THIRD QUARTER: Madison Rubino gave Humboldt a 29-24 lead to begin the second half. Stan State (10-9, 5-4 CCAA) made it a one-possession game on its next possession on a trey by
Jadyn Patterson off an assist from
Talia Maxwell, 29-27 Back-to-back baskets by Madison Rubino capped an 8-0 run by the hosts as they took a 37-27 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter. The Warriors came right back with an 8-0 run of their own capped by two free throws by
Aunika Hornung to cut into the 'Jack lead, 37-35 with two minutes left in the quarter. Humboldt outscored the Warriors 4-2 in the final two minutes of the quarter to take a 41-37 lead into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Mya Blake's opening jumper to begin the quarter, once it again, made the game a one possession game, 41-39. Cal Poly Humboldt had an 8-1 run to increase its lead to 49-40 with just four minutes left in regulation. The 'Jacks took a 58-47 lead with 1:04 on the clock. Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors'
Kalyn Harris' jumper made it 58-49 with just 48 seconds to go in the game. Humboldt went three-for-six on its next three possessions from the line to take a 61-49 lead.
Asha Walker's trey made the final 61-52.
BLOCK THAT SHOT: Stan State had five blocked shots this evening led by
Joia Armstrong with three.
Talia Maxwell and
Iman Addison had the other two blocked shots for the Warriors.
TIED FOR 5TH PLACE: The Warriors are tied for fourth place with Cal Poly Humboldt and Cal Poly Pomona heading into this weekend each with a 5-4 CCAA record. Cal State San Marcos holds the top spot (8-1) followed by Chico State (7-2) and Sonoma State (6-3).
BACK HOME AGAIN: Stan State returns home for a pair of games at The Fitz this weekend. The Warriors will host Cal Poly Pomona (Thurs., Jan. 18 at 5:30pm) and Cal State San Bernardino (Sat., Jan. 20 at 1pm).
