ARCATA, Calif.---- Stan State jumped out to 21-point lead to key its 79-62 road victory over Cal Poly Humboldt this evening in Arcata, Calif.
John Wade III led the way for the visitors with a game high 19 points.
Tony Singleton and
Dontrell Hewlett each chipped in 15 points for the victors.
Daniel Ameyaw missed a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds and scored eight points.
FIRST HALF: Tony Singleton's lay-up capped a 25-6 run to begin the game for Stan State to begin the game. Cal Poly Humboldt (3-11, 0-9 CCAA) cut the Warrior lead to 27-11 at the ten-minute mark of the half. Twice in the next three minutes the guests increased their lead to 19 (32-13) including a the 7:44 mark of the first half on a
Dontrell Hewlett dunk. The hosts went on a 16-2 run keyed by 14 points by Rob Diaz to cut the Stan State lead to 34-29 with just 3:30 left in the first half. A Hewlett lay-up gave Stan State a 38-31 lead. Two free throws by Emanuel Steward cut the 'Jack deficit to 38-33 heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF: Sage Wayans' jumper cut the Warrior lead to just a one-possession game, 38-35, to begin the second half.
Tony Singleton's trey keyed a 13-2 run by Stan State (5-10, 2-7 CCAA) to increase the guests lead to 51-39. Back-to-back jumpers by Kareem Clark cut the Warrior lead to 58-53 with seven minutes left in regulation. Stan State finished the game outscoring its hosts 21-9 to take the 79-62 CCAA road victory.
TRIO COMBINING FOR 49 POINTS: The trio of
John Wade III,
Tony Singleton, and
Dontrell Hewlett combined for 49 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and five steals to lead the way for the Warriors. Wade scored 19 points as he sent seven-for-nine from the field including two-for-three from beyond the arc. Singleton was five-for-nine from the field including connecting on four of his six attempts from beyond the arc. He also had one free throw for his 15 points to go with his five assists and three steals. Hewlett was five-for-11 from the field and a perfect five-for-five from the line for his 15 points.
JUST MISSED FOURTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Daniel Ameyaw was two points shy of his fourth double-double of the season. Ameyaw scored eight points as he shot four-for-six from the field. He grabbed ten rebounds (five offensive and five defensive). The sophomore post player added a blocked shot for the Warriors in 31 minutes.
10 FROM BEYOND THE ARC: Stan State was 10-for-23 from three-point land this evening in Arcata.
Tony Singleton led the way going four-for-six from treys.
John Wade IIII was two-for-three and
Isaiah Jones was two-for-four.
Jeremiah Jones and
Will Chavarin each were one-for-two.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: The Warriors won the battle of the boards, 34-19.

BACK HOME AGAIN: Stan State returns home for a pair of games at The Fitz this weekend. The Warriors will host Cal Poly Pomona (Thurs., Jan. 18 at 7:30pm) and Cal State San Bernardino (Sat., Jan. 20 at 3pm).
