Broncos’ Second Half Rally Keys 73-64 Victory Over Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif.--- The visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos outscored the Stan State Warriors 29-14 in the final 14 minutes of the game to key their 73-64 victory over the hosts in a CCAA match-up at The Fitz.  John Wade III led Stan State with 16 points while Daniel Ameyaw recorded his fourth double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Tony Singleton added 13 points for the hosts.  
 
FIRST HALF: Bam Johnson's lay-up gave the Broncos an early 17-12 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.  Stan State (5-11, 2-8 CCAA) outscored its guests 10-2 in the next four minutes to. Take a 22-19 lead capped by a Jeremiah Jones' lay-up.  Cal Poly Pomona came right back and took a 33-29 lead with ninety seconds left in the half on a Brandon Porter jumper.  Daniel Ameyaw scored the Warriors' next four points to tie the game at 33-3, but Michael Ofoegbu's jumper gave the visitors a 35-33 lead heading into the locker room.
 
SECOND HALF:  John Wade III's jumper gave the Warriors a 45-41 lead to begin the second half.  Tony Singleton's lay-up increased the hosts a 50-44 lead with fourteen minutes on the clock.  Brandon Porter's three capped a 12-2 run by Cal Poly Pomona (4-10, 3-7 CCAA) as they took a 56-52 lead with 7:06 left in regulation.  Singleton's trey off a pass from Wade cut the deficit to 59-55 with a little under five minutes to go in the game.  The guests increased their lead to 65-55 at the 3:46 mark of the game.  Daniel Ameyaw's dunk off a pass from Singleton cut the Warriors' deficit to 65-58, but that is the closest is they would get as Pomona took the 73-64 victory.
 
NUMBER FOUR:  Daniel Ameyaw recorded his fourth double-double of the season by scoring 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  He was five-of-eight from the field and went three-for-six from the line.  The Warrior post-player added three assists in 27 minutes.
 
12 TURNOVERS:  Stan State forced 12 turnovers by the Broncos including six by steals.  Three of those steals came from John Wade III with Cam Walker, Mahda Fallay, and Tony Singleton each with one.
 
14/9:  The Warriors had 14 assists with nine turnovers.  Tony Singleton dished out four assists with Daniel Ameyaw and John Wade III each dishing out three assists.  Dontrell Hewlett had two assists with Johnathan Tchengang and Isaiah Jones each with one.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will host Cal State San Bernardino this Saturday, January 20 at 3pm at The Fitz.  The Coyotes defeated Cal State Monterey Bay this evening 72-63 in Seaside.
