SAN FRANCISCO--- Stan State split its season series with the hosts SF State after the Gators defeated the Warriors 72-42 this evening in San Francisco. Dontrell Heweltt led the way for the Warriors with seven points. Stan State travels to Hayward for 7:30pm conference match-up with Cal State East Bay.
FIRST HALF: Jonah Roth's lay-up gave San Francisco State an early 9-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Stan State (5-13, 2-10 CCAA) went on a mini 5-0 run capped by a
Tony Singleton trey off a
John Wade III assist to tie the game at 9-9. The Gators came right back and took a 20-9 lead on two Roth free throws with 9:37 to go in the half.
Will Chavarin's trey off a
Jeremiah Jones cut the Gator lead to 22-14 with 6:24 left in the half. The Gators finished the half outscoring their guests 10-7 to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Tyjean Burrell's trey increased San Francisco State's lead to 47-27 in the first six minutes of the second half. A trey by
Baljot Sahi off another assist from
John Wade III cut the Warrior deficit to 49-35 at the 12:07 mark of the new stanza. San Francisco State (12-8, 6-6 CCAA) increased its lead to 66-41 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Caleb Oden with just 2:40 on the clock. SF State held on for the 72-42 victory.
SERIES SPLIT: With the Gators defeating Stan State this evening, the two teams split the season series. The Warriors defeated SF State 70-65 on Dec. 2, 2023, in Turlock, behind
Daniel Ameyaw's double-double performance of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
