SF State Splits Season Series with Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO---  Stan State split its season series with the hosts SF State after the Gators defeated the Warriors 72-42 this evening in San Francisco.  Dontrell Heweltt led the way for the Warriors with seven points.  Stan State travels to Hayward for 7:30pm conference match-up with Cal State East Bay.

FIRST HALF:  Jonah Roth's lay-up gave San Francisco State an early 9-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  Stan State (5-13, 2-10 CCAA) went on a mini 5-0 run capped by a Tony Singleton trey off a John Wade III assist to tie the game at 9-9.  The Gators came right back and took a 20-9 lead on two Roth free throws with 9:37 to go in the half.  Will Chavarin's trey off a Jeremiah Jones cut the Gator lead to 22-14 with 6:24 left in the half.  The Gators finished the half outscoring their guests 10-7 to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room.

SECOND HALF:  Tyjean Burrell's trey increased San Francisco State's lead to 47-27 in the first six minutes of the second half.  A trey by Baljot Sahi off another assist from John Wade III cut the Warrior deficit to 49-35 at the 12:07 mark of the new stanza.  San Francisco State (12-8, 6-6 CCAA) increased its lead to 66-41 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Caleb Oden with just 2:40 on the clock.  SF State held on for the 72-42 victory.
