TURLOCK, Calif.--- Cal State San Marcos used a strong defensive effort to key its 71-42 victory over the Stan State Warriors this evening at The Fitz. Three players led the way for Stan State each with seven points in
Dontrell Hewlett,
Jeremiah Jones, and
Cam Walker.
FIRST HALF: After a trey by
Isaiah Jones to tie the game at 6-6, Cal State San Marcos (5-7, 4-2 CCAA) went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead five minutes into the game.
Cam Walker's trey off a pass from
Daniel Ameyaw cut the Cougar lead to 22-16 with eight minutes left in the half. Cal State San Marcos increased its lead to 34-22 at the 3:28 mark on a Jack Schultz lay-up. The Cougars took a 38-24 lead into the locker room in thanks to an Edwyn Collins lay-up at the buzzer.
SECOND HALF: In the first even minutes of the second half, CSUSM went on a 11-5 run to take a 49-29 lead.
Jeremiah Jones' jumper mid-way through the half cut the Cougar lead to 49-36. Max Tengan's lay-up capped a 16-3 run to increase the guest's led to 65-39 with just three minutes left in regulation. The Cougars took the 71-42 CCAA victory.
19-15: Stan State's (4-8, 1-5 CCAA) bench outscored the Cougar bench 19-15.
Jeremiah Jones and
Cam Walker each had seven points with
Micah Boone chipping in three points and
Will Chavarin adding two points for the Warriors.
