TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State' game-winning shot attempt fell short as the buzzer sounded in the Warriors 61-59 loss to Sonoma State this afternoon at The Fitz.
Dontrell Hewlett led the way for the hosts with a game high 18 points off the bench.
John Wade III added 10 points for the Warriors.
FIRST HALF: A trey by Pierce Rexford gave Sonoma State (8-5, 4-3 CCAA) a 10-6 lead in the first six minutes of the game. An old-fashioned three-point by
Dontrell Hewlett gave the Warriors a 19-18 lead with 3:33 left in the first half.
John Wade III's three off a pass from
Tony Singleton increased the hosts' lead to 28-26. Sonoma State retook the lead on a three by Cameron Barry, 29-28, with just 46 seconds to go in the half. The Warriors took a 30-29 lead on
Isaiah Jones' two made free throws heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Stan State (4-9, 1-6 CCAA) took a 38-35 lead on a trey by
Jeremiah Jones off a pass from
Baljot Sahi just four minutes into the second half. A
Dontrell Hewlett lay-up off a
Micah Boone pass increased the Warrior lead to 49-45 at the 9:15 mark of the second half. The Seawolves outscored the Warriors 11-2 to take a 56-51 lead with just three minutes left in regulation. A Hewlett trey cut the guests' lead to 60-59 with just ten seconds on the clock. Stan State was forced to foul, and Julian Bryant went one-for-two to give Sonoma State a 61-59 lead. The Warriors had a chance for the victory, but their attempt fell short as the Seawolves took the 61-59 victory.
43-22: Stan State's bench outscored Sonoma State's bench 43-22 lead by
Dontrell Hewlett's game high 18 points.
John Wade III chipped in 10 points for the Warriors.
Tony Singleton added six points while
Isaiah Jones scored four points,
Will Chavarin three points, and
Micah Boone had two points.
TEN FROM BEYOND THE ARC: The Warriors went ten-for-32 from beyond the arc this afternoon.

UP NEXT: Stan State returns to the road for a pair of CCAA games in Northern California. The Warriors will face No. 20 Chico State this Thursday, Jan. 11 in Chico, Calif. They will be in Arcata on Saturday, Jan. 13 to face Cal Poly Humboldt. Both games will have a scheduled 7:30pm tip-off. They will return home on Thursday, Jan. 20 for a 7:30pm scheduled game with Cal Poly Pomona at The Fitz on Stan State Student Affairs/Rotary Night.
