SEASIDE, Calif.--- Stan State saw its rally late in this evening's match fall short this evening in a 2-1 loss to the Cal State Monterey Bay at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, Calif.
Jocelyn Figueroa scored her second goal of the season in the 78
th minute for the guests.
FIRST HALF: The guests had a couple early chances for the lead in the seventh minute when
Jocelin Roa's shot attempts went to the right of the goal. The Warriors'
Natalia Ochoa recorded two of her saves in the nineteenth minute stopping Tiger Rendon's and Jasmine Guardodo's shot on goal attempts. Three minutes later, Cal State Monterey Bay (4-1-4, 1-0-2) took the 1-0 lead when Jaedyn Sanders connected on the unassisted goal. The hosts had a couple of chances to double their lead in the final minutes of the half, but Ochoa made three key saves to send the match into the half with the Warriors' trailing 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The Otters doubled their lead in the 61
st minute when Audrey Reyna connected on a cross from Gianna Foss. Stan State (3-5-2, 0-3 CCAA) had a chance to cut into the deficit, but
Grace Fabionar's shot attempt went left of the goal.
Jocelyn Figueroa cut the Warrior deficit in half when she scored her second goal in her last three matches in the 78
th minute. The Warriors had three chances to tie the match in the final minutes. The first coming in the 84
th minute when
Makeila Yancey's shot attempt sailed left of the goal. Not even thirty seconds later, the Otters' Nyiah Mirshafiei' stopped
Kellyann Rodriguez's shot on goal attempt. The Warriors' last chance came with 84:23 on the clock when
Alexi Ochoa's shot attempt went wide of the goal as the Otters held on for the 2-1 victory.
28-6-3: Even though the Warriors lost this evening in Seaside, Stan State holds a 28-6-3 advantage. The Warriors are 6-2-2 against Cal State Monterey Bay in the last ten meetings between the two teams.
NUMBER TWO: Playing in just her third match of the season,
Jocelyn Figueroa scored her second goal this evening for the Warriors. She has recorded three shot attempts including two on goal which both found the back of the net.
SEASON HIGH: Natalia Ochoa recorded eight saves in goal for the Warriors this evening. For the season, Ochoa has 26 saves for a .743 saves percentage and a 1.49 goals against average.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns to the pitch this Sunday, October 13 for a 2:00 p.m. starting match with San Francisco State in San Francisco. The Gators lost 2-1 to the visiting Chico State Wildcats earlier this afternoon. The Warriors will return home on Student Affairs Night when they host Cal Poly Humboldt at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17.
