SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Stan State recorded its third shutout of the season and picked up three points in the Warriors' 3-0 conference road win over the SF State Gators this afternoon at Cox Stadium in San Francisco.
Tylin Norman in just her second start in goal recorded her first collegiate shutout with eight saves for the Warriors.
FIRST HALF: The visitors took the 1-0 lead in just the sixth minute, when they were fouled in the box.
Aliah Avila connected on the penalty kick for her team leading third goal of the season. SF State looked like it was going to tie the match, but
Tylin Norman made one of her season high eight saves by stopping Kaya Mitchem's shot on goal attempt in the ninth minute. Stan State (4-5-2, 1-3 CCAA) had a chance to double its lead in the 30
th minute when
Jocelin Roa's shot attempt was stopped by Cameryn Nunn. Norman made two more saves late in the half including in the 37
th minute when she stopped Lauren Francois shot attempt to send the match into the second half with the Warriors leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Stan State doubled its lead just a minute into the new half as
Kaley Miller connected on unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later, the Warriors took a 3-0 lead on an unassisted goal by
Katie Smith. SF State (3-8, 0-4 CCAA) had three chances to cut into the Warrior lead stopped by the Warriors' keeper in the 56
th minute. Noon made her final save with nineteen minutes left in the match stopping Samantha Shim's shot on goal attempt as the Warriors took the 3-0 conference road victory.
THREE POINTS: With the win this afternoon, Stan State recorded three points in the CCAA standings. During the CCAA season, you get three points for a victory and a point for a tie.
MORE THREE'S: Stan State's three goals scored this afternoon was the most the Warriors have scored since their season opening 3-1 victory at Saint Martin's, September 5. Last season in Turlock, they defeated SF State by a 3-0 on Senior Day in late October 2023. The Warriors now hold a 22-5 advantage in the all-time series since 1998 between the two teams.
AGAIN, WITH THREE'S: Three different Warriors scored a goal this afternoon in
Aliah Avila,
Kaley Miller, and Katei Smith. Avila's goal was her third of the season, which ties her with
Jocelin Roa for the team lead. She also has three assists, which ties her for the team lead with Miller. The sophomore forward leads the team with her nine points and three game-winning goals. Miller and Smith each scored their first goal of the season.
FIRST COLLEGIATE: Tylin Norman recorded her first collegiate shutout this afternoon. The sophomore transfer had a season high eight saves in just her second start in goal for the Warriors. In her two matches in goal, Norman has a 1.50 goals against average with 13 saves, a .813 saves percentage, and one shutout.
UP NEXT: Stan State return home this Thursday, October 17 under the lights when the Warriors face Cal Poly Humboldt at 7:00 p.m. on Student Affairs Night at Warrior Stadium. They will travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., a week from today for an 11:30 a.m. scheduled match against Sonoma State.
