TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State posted its second straight shutout and fourth shutout of the season in its 3-0 home victory over the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks.
Sabrina Cabrera was part of all three Warrior goals with two assists and a goal to key the Warrior victory.
FIRST HALF: Nine minutes into the match, Humboldt's Carson Thomson-Terrel stopped the Warriors'
Jocelin Roa's attempt for the match's first goal. Cal Poly Humboldt (5-6-1, 2-3 CCAA) had its chance for the 1-0 lead in the 23
rd minute when
Tylin Norman stopped Emma McChristie's attempt to keep the match scoreless. Six minutes later, Roa had another chance to give Stan State the lead but her attempt was stopped by Humboldt's keeper. The Warriors had another shot on goal attempt in the 30
th minute, but Thomson-Terrel stopped
Aliah Avila's shot on goal attempt. Neither team recorded a shot on goal attempt in the final fifteen minutes of the half as the match was scoreless at the half.
SECOND HALF: Just seven minutes into the new stanza,
Kellyann Rodriguez looked like she was going to give the hosts the lead when the Humboldt keeper made another save. The Warriors took the 1-0 lead in the 58
th minute when
Shauna Johnston scored her second goal when she connected on the first of two assists by
Sabrina Cabrera.
Aliah Avila had two chances to double the Warrior lead, but Carson Thomson-Terrel stopped both of her attempts in the 60
th minute. Avila scored her team leading fourth goal of the season connecting on Cabrera's second assist of the match in the 67
th minute. Emma McChristie had two chances to cut into the Warrior, but Stan State's keeper (
Tylin Norman) made two of her four saves of the evening. With just 14 minutes left in the match, Cabrera sealed the match for the hosts as she scored her third goal of the season connecting on a
Makeila Yancey assist.
Haylee Heffner had a chance to increase Stan State's lead, but it went over the goal in the 80
th minute as the Warriors took the 3-0 victory.
ALL THREE: Sabrina Cabrera was a part of all three goal for the Warriors' this evening. She assisted on the match's first goal in the 58
th minute by
Shauna Johnston. The senior midfielder recorded her second assist of the match and season on a goal by
Aliah Avila in the 67
th minute. Cabrera scored her third goal of the season off an assist from
Makeila Yancey.
BACK-TO-BACK: Tylin Norman recorded her second consecutive shutout in goal for the Warriors' this evening. Norman had four saves in goal for the hosts. In three matches, Norman has posted a 1.00 goals against average with 17 saves, .850 saves percentage, and two shutouts.
SECOND GAME-WINNER: Shauna Johnston scored her second game-winning goal of the season this evening off pass from
Sabrina Cabrera in the second half for the Warriors.
Aliah Avila scored her fourth goal this season while Cabrera had her third goal of the season with her first and second assist. Recording her first of the season was
Makeila Yancey's on Cabrera's goal.
UP NEXT: Stan State (5-5-2, 2-3 CCAA) returns to the road for its next match this Sunday, October 20 for an 11:30 a.m. scheduled match in Rohnert Park, Calif., against Sonoma State. The Seawolves played to a 1-1 draw at Chico State this evening. The Warriors return home next week for a pair of CCAA matches against Cal State San Bernardino (Friday, October 25 at 4:30 p.m.) and No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona (Sunday, October 27 at 11:30 a.m.).
