Story Links

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State picked up three important points this evening in its 2-0 shutout victory over the visiting Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes this evening at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, Calif.  This was the Warriors third straight shutout victory.  Aliah Avila and Kellyann Rodriguez each scored goal for the hosts with Grace Fabionar, Sabrina Cabrera, and Haylee Heffner each assisting on the Warriors' three goals.

FIRST HALF:  The Warriors had the first shot on goal attempt of the match just ninety seconds into it when Kaley Miller's shot was stopped by Cal State San Bernardino's Leila Peregrina.  Stan State (6-5-2, 3-3 CCAA) had another shot at the lead when Reyna Dismukes' free kick was stopped by the Coyotes' 'keeper at the 25th minute.  Four minutes later, Sabrina Cabrera's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Peregrina.  The Warriors took the 1-0 lead in the 37th minute when Aliah Avila scored her fifth goal of the season on a double assist by Grace Fabionar and Cabrera.  Cal State San Bernardino had a chance to tie the match right after the Warriors' goal, but Natalia Ochoa stopped Emilee Perez's shot on goal attempt.  With a minute left, the Coyotes had another chance to tie but Ochoa snagged Sophia Leoro's shot on goal attempt to send the match into the half with the Warriors leading 1-0.

SECOND HALF:  Early in the second half, Cal State San Bernardino (4-4-5, 3-2-2 CCAA) looked like the Coyotes were going to tie the match, but Natalia Ochoa stopped Leslie Aldape's attempt in the 49th minute.  The Warriors drove down the pitch, but Kaley Miller's shot attempt was snagged by CSUSB's keeper.  CSUSB had two chance to tie the match in the 70th minute when Ochoa stopped both attempts by Alyssa Vernon.  The hosts sealed the win in the 80th minute as Kellyann Rodriguez scored her first goal as a Warrior off a cross from Haylee Heffner as Stan State took the 2-0 victory.

TIED FOR SIXTH:  With the win this evening, Stan State (6-5-2, 3-3 CCAA) is tied with Cal State Dominguez Hills each with nine points for sixth place in the CCAA regular season standings.  The top six teams in the regular season standings after November 7th will receive a berth to the 2024 CCAA Soccer Championships.

THIRD STRAIGHT:  Stan State recorded its third straight shutout this evening and fifth of the season.  The Warrior goalkeeper duo of Tylin Norman and Natalia Ochoa had six combined saves in goal for the victors.

5/3/2/1: Aliah Avila scored her team leading fifth goal of the season and fourth game-winning goal.  Sabrina Cabrera had her third assist while Haylee Heffner had her second assist.  Kellyann Rodriguez scored her first goal as a Warrior and Grace Fabionar had her first assist.
