Stan State Victorious Over Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON, Calif.--- The Stan State Warriors (12-4, 5-3 CCAA) played Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-10, 3-5 CCAA) at the Torodome tonight, winning the match 3-0. The Warriors are now on a three-game win streak, which they are hoping to extend in their next match versus Chico State.

FIRST SET: The Warriors began the first set by keeping things even with a pair of kills by Mariah Iosua, tying the score at 5-5. Mistakes by Cal State Dominguez's offense brought Stan State to a 17-13 lead, while Mariah Iosua, Ellison Weaver, and Makenna Carrillo found the floor to give Stan State the lead in the match, taking the set 25-23.

SECOND SET: Kills on both sides brought the score to 4-4. Alex Byrd came into the set swinging, recording three kills to bring the Warriors' lead up to 10-6. Autumn Kirby made sure to command the same space as her teammate Byrd by securing a block to force the Toros to take a timeout. The timeout was not enough to halt Stan State, with Ellison Weaver getting a kill and two service aces, causing the Dominguez to take another timeout. The Warriors continued their offensive strike, winning the set 25-18.

THIRD SET: The third set proved to be tough for both sides. Five service errors between the two teams made it difficult for either side to find a rhythm. The set also remained close, with the score being tied a total of 11 times. There was no true breakout moment for the Warriors, but Autumn Kirby held the line with four blocks this set, including one solo block. Carrillo also hit .500 for the set, helping Stan State take the set 26-24 and claim the match.

HIGHLIGHTS: Autumn Kirby led the team in blocks with six, while Makenna Carrillo was the team leader in kills, with 11 attacks finding the floor. Gabby Rawson recorded 12 digs to lead the team, and Haley Burdo's 11 digs and 13 assists added another double-double to her season.

UP NEXT: State will return home on Tuesday, October 15th, to play Chico State (6-9, 3-5 CCAA) on Education Day at 1:00 p.m. Chico lost their previous match against #18 Cal State Los Angeles 3-0.
