Stan State to face the Lumberjacks and Seawolves this Week

TURLOCK, Calif.---   Stan State returns home this Thursday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m., when the Warriors host Cal Poly Humboldt on Student Affairs Night at Warrior Stadium.  After their match with the Lumberjacks, the Warriors will travel to Rohnert Park, Calif., for a 2:00 p.m. scheduled match with the Sonoma State Seawolves in Rohnert Park, Calif.

LAST WEEK:  The Warriors went 0-1-1 in its two road matches this weekend.  They started with a 4-0 loss at Cal State Monterey Bay this past Friday evening in Seaside, Calif. Stan State lost to the Otters even though recording seven shots on goal. Stan State finished the weekend with a 1-1 draw at San Francisco State on Sunday.  Alecxander Cuellar scored the Warriors' goal in the first half.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez had four saves in goal for Stan State.   

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stan State enters its Thursday match at home with a 4-4-3 overall record and a 0-2-2 CCAA record.  Alecxander Cuellar leads the way with his three goals to go with his three assists and team high nine points.  Cuellar also leads the Warriors with his two game-winning goals.  Leading the team with his four assists is Edgar Castaneda who also has a goal scored for his six points.  Right behind Castaneda are Jacob Ramirez and Marco Carbajal each with two goals, one assist, and five points. Ramirez and Adrian Yepez have recorded Stan State's other two game-winning goals.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has posted a 1.45 goals against average with a .719 saves percentage, three shutouts, and 41 saves. 

RANKED CCAA/NCAA:  Three Warriors are in the top ten in the CCAA in five individual statistical categories.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez is third in saves per game (3.75), tied for fourth in shutouts (four), seventh in goals against average (1.46), and eighth in shutout percentage (.719).  Edgar Castaneda is tied for third with his four assists followed by Alecxander Culler being tied for eighth with his three assists.  Ruiz-Hernandez is in the top 40 in NCAA Division II in saves and shutouts.  He is thirty third in saves and 40th in shutouts.       

LUMBERJACKS IN REVIEW:  Cal Poly Humboldt enters its match this Thursday with a 2-6-3 overall record and a 1-3-1 CCAA record.  The 'Jacks lost 6-0 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and 2-1 at No. 2 Cal State Los Angeles this weekend.  Duke Romanchuk leads the team with his three goals for six points.  Marcus Abdel-Malek is right behind him with his two goals for four points.  Five 'Jacks have scored a goal this season in Cooper Stephens, Alex Lopez, Ernie Garza, Nathan Murff, and Erwin Manibusan Jr.  Adrian Gallardo has posted a 1.81 goals against average in goal for Humboldt. He has 55 saves with one shutout and a .733 and a shutout in eleven matches in goal for the 'Jacks. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series 14-5-2 with Cal Poly Humboldt.  The Lumberjacks are 3-1-1 against the Warriors in the last five meetings.    The Warriors last defeated Humboldt 3-1 in 2018 in Turlock as current assistant coach Desmond Madrigal scored a goal and assisted on a goal for Stan State. 

SEAWOLVES IN REVIEW: Sonoma State enters its Thursday's match at No. 12 Chico State with a 2-4-5 overall record and a 0-3-2 CCAA record.  The Seawolves went 0-2 in their trip to Southern California losing 1-0 at No. 2 Cal State Los Angeles and 4-0 at Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Jose Rios Lara leads the team with his four goals of which two were scored via penalty kick.  Christian Alvarado has a team leading four assists.  Michael Gray and Oswaldo Rojas each have scored two goals this season for Sonoma.  Jack Chapman has seen action in all eleven of the Seawolves' match.  He has posted a 1.67 goals against average to go with his 39 saves, .694 saves percentage, and one shutout. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Sonoma State leads the all-time series with the Warriors since 2007, 13-8-3.  The Warriors are 1-3-1 against Sonoma State in the last five meetings between the two teams.  Stan State last defeated the Seawolves 4-0 in Turlock during the 2018 season.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's match in Rohnert Park, Stan State will return home for a pair of matches October 25 and 27.  The Warriors will host Cal State San Bernardino on Alumni Night at Warrior Stadium.  The match with the Coyotes is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25.  Two days later, Stan State will host No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona on Senior Day on Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m.  Prior to the match, the Warriors will recognize their seniors in Daniel Avalos, Marco Carbajal, Edgar Castaneda, Elio Corral, Alecxander Cuellar, Leonardo Muniz, Alexis Ramirez and Ryan Rosas prior to the match versus the Broncos.
