TURLOCK, Calif.--- For the fourth time this season, Stan State recorded a shutout this time a scoreless draw with Cal Poly Humboldt on Student Affairs Night at Warrior Stadium. The Warrior defense held the 'Jacks to just eight shot attempts on the evening and none on goal. Stan State had twenty-one shut attempts including eight on goal.
FIRST HALF: Stan State (4-4-4, 0-2-3 CCAA) had the match's first chance for the early lead, but
Sammy Villanueva's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Lumberjacks' Adrian Gallardo in the fifth minute. Nine minutes later,
Jacob Ramirez had a chance to give the Warriors the lead, but Gallardo made another one of his eight saves on the evening. In the 24
th minute,
Edgar Castaneda's shot on goal attempt was snagged to keep the match scoreless. Stan State had two more shot on goals in the final fifteen minutes of the half one by
Elio Corral and the other by
Alecxander Cuellar, but Gallardo stopped both attempts to send the match into the half scoreless.
SECOND HALF: Cal Poly Humboldt (2-6-4, 1-3-2 CCAA) looked like it was going to take a 1-0 lead when Cooper Stephens' shot attempt went wide left just five minutes into the new half. Five minutes later,
Elio Corral had another chance to give the Warriors the lead, but Adrian Gallardo made another save. At the 62
nd minute,
Alexis Ramirez saw his shot on goal attempt be stopped by the 'Jack keeper. Humboldt had two chances for the lead in the 72
nd when Paris Ruiz and Jai Sternhall's attempt went over the goal. With just two minutes left in the match, Gallardo made his final save of the night stopping
Alexis Ramirez's shot on goal attempt to end the match in a scoreless draw.
21-8: Stan State held a 21-8 shot advantage including 8-0 in shot on goals. Of the 21 shot attempts,
Elio Corral had four and
Edgar Castaneda and
Sammy Villanueva each had three. Corral and
Alexis Ramirez each had two shot on goal attempts. The Warriors also held an 8-3 corner kick advantage.
FOURTH: The Warrior defense recorded their fourth shutout of the season all with
Angel Ruiz-Hernandez in goal. Stan State held the Lumberjacks without a shot on goal attempt this evening. This was Stan State's second scoreless draw of the season with the other coming on October 4 versus Cal State Dominguez Hills.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return to the pitch this Sunday, October 20 in Rohnert Park, Calif., for a 2:00 p.m. match with Sonoma State. The Seawolves defeated No. 8 Chico State 2-1 this evening in Chico, Calif. After Sunday, Stan State will return home next weekend for a pair of CCAA matches against Cal State San Bernardino (Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m.) and No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona (Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. Friday's match will be Alumni Night and Sunday's match will be Senior Day.
