Warriors to Host CSUSB and No. 17 CPP this Weekend

Men’s Soccer to Recognize Their Seniors This Sunday

TURLOCK, Calif.---   After recording their fifth shutout in a 1-0 win at Sonoma State on Sunday afternoon, the Stan State Warriors will return home this weekend for a pair of CCAA games with Cal State San Bernardino and No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona.  The Warriors will host Cal State San Bernardino this Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. on Alumni Night. Stan State will face No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona this Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. on Senior Day.  Prior to the match, the Warriors will recognize their seniors in Daniel Avalos, Marco Carbajal, Edgar Castaneda, Elio Corral, Alecxander Cuellar, Leonardo Muniz, Alexis Ramirez and Ryan Rosas prior to the match versus the Broncos. 

LAST WEEK:  The Warriors went 1-0-1 in their matches with Cal Poly Humboldt and at Sonoma State.  They played to a scoreless draw with Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday evening and held the 'Jacks without a shot on goal attempt.  Stan State finished the weekend with a 1-0 shutout at Sonoma State on Sunday.  Kenneth Solares scored the game-winning goal with fifteen minutes left in the match on a pass from Jacob RamirezAngel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded his fifth shutout of the season with two saves in goal for the Warriors.    

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stan State enters its Friday match with Cal State San Bernardino with a 5-4-4 overall record and a 1-2-3 CCAA record.  The Warriors are averaging 1.38 goals a game while giving up 1.23 goals a game.  Alecxander Cuellar leads the team with his three goals (three assists, nine points, and two game-winning goals.  Edgar Castaneda has a team high four assists to go with his one goal.  Castaneda is one of three Warriors with six points joining Jacob Ramirez (two goals, two assists) and Kenneth Solares (two goals, two assists).  Adrian Yepez along with Ramirez and Solares have scored the Warriors' two other game-winning goals.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has posted a 1.23 goals against average with 43 saves, five shutouts, and a .729 saves percentage.    

RANKED CCAA/NCAA:  Three Warriors in Edgar Castaneda, Alecxander Cuellar, and Angel Ruiz-Hernandez are in the top ten in the CCAA in six statistical categories.  Ruiz-Hernandez is tied for third with five shutouts, fourth with 43 saves, and sixth in goals against average (1.23) and saves percentage (.729).  Cuellar is tied for sixth with his two game-winning goals and tied for ninth with his three saves.  Castaneda is tied for third with his four assists.

SENIOR DAY:  Prior to their match on Sunday between 1:50 p.m. and 2:10 p.m., the Warriors will recognize their seniors in Daniel Avalos, Marco Carbajal, Edgar Castaneda, Elio Corral, Alecxander Cuellar, Leonardo Muniz, Alexis Ramirez and Ryan Rosas prior to the match versus the Broncos. 

COYOTES IN REVIEW:  Cal State San Bernardino enters its game on Friday night with a 4-2-6 overall record and a 2-1-3 CCAA record. The Coyotes tied both of their matches this weekend 3-3 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and 1-1 at No. 2 Cal State Los Angeles.  They are averaging 1.83 goals a game while giving up 1.67 goals a game.  Brian Castillo leads the Coyotes with his ten goals and twenty points.  Martin Garcia has a team leading three assists.  Four different players have scored a game-winning goal for CSUSB in Castillo, Rafa Fonseca, Hunter George, and Reece Kilpin. Fonseca is second on the team with his nine points and four goals (one assist).  Aiden Hanes has posted a 1.72 goals against average in eleven matches with 30 saves, one shutout, and a .625 saves percentage.    JP Camacho has seen action in three matches with seven saves, .778 saves percentage, and a 1.23 goals against average. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Since 2007, Cal State San Bernardino leads the all-time series with the Warriors 8-4-4.  The two teams played a 2-2 draw in San Bernardino last season.  Tyler Tipton scored both goals for Stan State with Edgar Castaneda and Sammy Villanueva each assisted on the two goals.  Stan State defeated the Coyotes 3-0 in 2022 in San Bernardino.  The Coyotes defeated the Warriors 2-1 in 2021 in Turlock.    

BRONCOS IN REVIEW: No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona enters its Friday's match at No. 8 Chico State with an 8-1-4 overall record and a 3-0-3 CCAA record.  The Broncos are 3-0-2 in their last five matches including tying both matches last weekend 1-1 at No. 2 Cal State Los Angeles and at home versus Cal State Dominguez Hills.  They are averaging 2.08 goals a game while giving up 0.62 goals a game.  Max Laguna leads the Broncos with his four assists and 16 points.  He is tied with Woody Angell for the team lead each with six goals scored.  Angell has scored a team leading four game-winning goals followed by Mike Moser and Laguna each with two.  Luke Garciduenas has posted a 0.51 goals against average with 28 saves, six shutouts, and a .824 saves percentage in twelve matches.  Cody Lindeman has a 1.56 goals against average with three saves in two matches. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Since 2007, Cal Poly Pomona holds a 13-3-2 all-time advantage in the season series.  The last time the two teams played in Turlock, they played to a 1-1 draw in 2022 with Sammy Villanueva scoring Stan State's goal.  The last Warrior win over Cal Poly Pomona was in 2013 in Turlock.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's match against Cal Poly Pomona, Stan State will return to the road for its final two road games of the regular season.  The Warriors will be at Cal State San Marcos for a 3:00 p.m. starting match with the Cougars in San Marcos, Calif., on Friday, November 1.  Stan State will travel to Hayward, Calif., for its final road game on Sunday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. against Cal State East Bay.  The Warriors will return home for their final regular season on Thursday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. against No. 8 Chico State.
