Warriors Take Season Series Against RV Cal State San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Stanislaus State (15-6, 8-5 CCAA) played a match against California State San Bernardino (11-9, 7-6 CCAA), who is receiving votes for top twenty-five contention, this evening, winning the game 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 25-20). This adds a strong start to the Warriors four-game road trip, marking the first time Stan State has taken down Cal State San Bernardino while on the road.

FIRST SET: Cal State San Bernardino got off to a strong start, taking an early lead 7-3. However, a couple of errors for Coyotes created an opening for Stan State. The Warriors certainly took advantage, going on a run that caused San Bernardino to take the first timeout of the match. Stan State continued to press their advantage with kills by Ellison Weaver and Makenna Carrillo allowing the Warriors to win the set 25-16.

SECOND SET: The Warriors found their footing after the first set and kept the score even, with a kill from Isabella Saucedo bringing it to 6-6. Stan State's block took over from there. Five total blocks, including solo blocks from Autumn Kirby and Alex Byrd, ensured the Coyotes had to play Stan State's game. The Warriors took the set 25-18.

THIRD SET: With their backs against the wall, the Coyotes took an early lead in the third set, including a four-point run to put them up 11-6. The Warriors took a timeout to try to recover, but Cal State San Bernardino continued to put the pressure on, pushing their lead to 16-8. Stan State mounted a comeback, but the Coyotes won the set 25-17.

FOURTH SET: The fourth set started off even, both teams vying for the lead. Cal State San Bernardino took the first lead 7-5, but the Warriors responded quickly, wanting to close out the match. With an ace serve from Ellison Weaver and kills from Isabella Saucedo, Stan State took the lead for their own. Spikes from Malia Tanksley brought the score to 17-13 in Stan State's favor. The Warriors claimed the fourth set and the match 25-20.

SERIES SHAKE-UP: This win marks the first time Stan State has earned a win on Cal State San Bernardino's home ground in series history. With the Warriors' victory at the Fitzpatrick Arena against the Coyotes earlier this month, this is also the first time, dating back to 1998, that Stan State has claimed the season series.

BIG NUMBERS: With her .400 hitting percentage and 12 kills, Makenna Carrillo tied her season highs in this match. Alex Byrd had another strong outing with five combined blocks, one solo block, and five kills. Gabby Rawson and Ellison Weaver had two services aces a piece, serving up four of the team's six total aces.

UP NEXT: Stan State travels to San Francisco, Calif. on Saturday, November 2nd to face #20 San Francisco State University at 1:00 p.m. The Warriors then continue their road trip to Arcata, Calif. to play Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m.
