Men’s Soccer Records Third Shutout in 0-0 Draw with Toros

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State recorded its third shutout in the Warriors' last five minutes this evening in a scoreless draw with the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros.  Junior goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez had five saves in goal for his third shutout in his first year as a Warrior.

FIRST HALF:  Chris Breseno recorded the match's first shot on goal attempt for the guests in the tenth minute when Stan State's Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made the first of his five saves on the evening.  Stan State (4-2-2, 0-0-1 CCAA) saw its first chance go wide left of the goal off the foot of Edgar Castaneda in the 22nd minutes.  The hosts had two chances in the 27th minute for the lead, but both Jacob Ramirez's and Landon Leal Ruiz's shot on goal attempts went wide of the goal.  Ruiz-Hernandez made another stop in the 35th minute off the foot of Esteban Ojeda in the 35th minute.  Stan State had the final chance for the first goal of the match as the buzzer sounded as Luis Flores' shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Toros' Arturo Magana.

SECOND HALF: Cal State Dominguez Hills (3-4-1, 0-0-1 CCAA) came out in the second half and looked like the Toros were going to take the lead when the Warriors' keeper stopped Cland Iwasaki's shot attempt just a minute into the new half.  Stan State had three chances in the 60th minute to take the lead, but the Toros' keeper stopped Landon Leal Ruiz's, Arian Yepez's, and Jose Ponce's attempt to keep the match scoreless.  With ten minutes left in the match, Alecxander Cuellar saw his shot attempt be stopped by Arturo Magana.  The Toros had the final chance of the match for the lead, but Angel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded his fifth save of the match in the final seconds as the match ended in a scoreless draw.

ONE POINT:  With the draw, both teams earned a point in the CCAA standings.

THIRD SHUTOUT:  Stan State's goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez posted his third shutout in goal in the Warriors' last five minutes this evening.  The other two shutouts were 2-0 victories over Hawai'i Pacific and Academy of Art.  Ruiz-Hernandez's five saves tied him for his season high.
