Golden Eagles Hold Off Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State saw its second half rally fall short in the Warriors' 3-1 loss to the visiting Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles.  Jocelin Roa connected on a cross from Kaley Miller for the hosts' goal in the 57th minute.

FIRST HALF:  Stan State (3-4-2, 0-2 CCAA) thought it was going to take the 1-0- lead in the eighth minute when Sabrina Cabrera's shot attempt was stopped by the Golden Eagles' Taesja Paopao. The hosts had two more chances for the 1-0 lead be stopped by Paopalo in the 18th minute, one off the foot of Aliah Avila and the other from Cabrera.  Cal State Los Angeles, who was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' National Poll, took the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute as Mia Del Muro connected on a ball from Andrea Hernandez for the first goal of the match.  Neither team had a shot on goal attempt in the final 22 minutes as the guests took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

SECOND HALF:  Cal State Los Angeles (5-0-3, 2-0 CCAA) doubled its lead when Shelby Melin connected on an unassisted goal just five minutes into the new half.  The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal by Delia Bocanegra off a cross from Jassmin Ortiz in the 57th minute.  Jocelin Roa's goal off a pass from Kaley Miller cut the Warrior deficit to 3-1 just twenty-two seconds later.  Roa had a chance for the Warriors' second goal, but her shot went over the top of the goal in the 69th minute.  Three minutes later, Francesca Hahn saw her shot attempt go wide right of the goal as the Golden Eagles held on for the 3-1 CCAA victory.
