Warriors Shoot Past Western Oregon in 94-88 Victory

ROHNERT, Calif.---  Stan State (2-1) shot 51.5% from the field including 52.9% from beyond the arc to key its 94-88 in the first game of the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge at The Wolves Den on the campus of Sonoma State University.  Jeremiah Jones paced the Warriors with a career high 33 points.  Jones went 13-for-15 from the field including two-for-four from three-point land and was a perfect five-for-five from the charity stripe.  Cameron Walker added a career high 21 points with Jonathan Tchengang chipping in 10 points.

FIRST HALF:  The first ten minutes of the game was evenly played until Lloyd French's trey off a pass from Fabian Reichstadt gave Stan State a 24-11 lead at the 10:08 mark.  Western Oregon (1-5) outscored the Warriors 10-3 to take a 31-27 lead on a Anjay Cortez lay-up with 6:44 left in the half.  The Warriors took a 40-38 lead when Jeremiah Jones connected from beyond the arc off a pass from Jason Cibull at 1:45 mark of the half.  The combination of Jones-Cibull connected again as Stan State took a 45-38 lead.  Zach Moore's three cut the Warrior lead to 43-41 heading into the half. 

SECOND HALF:  Western Oregon took a 48-46 lead in the first two minutes of the new half.  Stan State outscored the Wolves 15-8 in the next five minutes and took a 61-56 lead on a Cameron Walker lay-up.  A trey by Lloyd French off a pass from Jeremiah Jones increased the Warrior lead to 78-69 with eight minutes left in regulation.  With just three minutes to go in the game, Walker's lay-up increased Stan State's lead to 84-74 (the Warriors' largest lead of the game).  Tony Salinas' lay-up cut the Wolves' deficit to 92-88 with only fourteen seconds on the clock.  Jones' two free throws on the Warriors' next possession sealed the 94-88 victory for Stan State. 

94 POINTS:  Stan State's 94 points was the most since scored by a Warrior team since January 12, 2023, when the Warriors defeated then No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino 94-84 in Turlock, Calif.  In that game, Jeremiah Jones cored 10 points for the Warriors while Daniel Ameyaw added four points. 

20 POINTS OFF TURNOVERS   The Warrior defense scored 20 points off Western Oregon's 16 turnovers.  Eight of those turnovers came on steals with four by Jonathan Tchengang, two by Jeremiah Jones, and one each by Jordan Smith and Cameron Walker.

ALSO IN DOUBLE FIGURES:  Jonathan Tchengang scored 10 points for the Warriors.  He added eight rebounds, four steals, and two assists in 26 minutes of action for the victors. 

51%:  Stan State shot 51.5% from the field including 52.9% from three-point land.  The Warriors connected on 54.5% of their attempts from the field in the second half while going five-for-nine from three-point land.

15/6:  The Warriors had 15 assists this evening with just six turnovers.  Jason Cibull led the way with four assists followed by Jeremiah Jones with three.  Jonathan Tchengang and Jason Zimmer each had two with four Warriors have one each in Cameron Walker, Lloyd French, Fabian Reichstadt, and William Chavarin.

UP NEXT: The Warriors will face Hawai'I Pacific in Day Two of the Ron Logsdon Challenge in Rohnert Park, Calif.  Tip-off for that game is set for 5:00 p.m. tomorrow evening at The Wolves Den on the campus of Sonoma State.  After tomorrow night, Stan State will have the first of its three exhibition games on Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif.    Their home opener is set for Saturday, November 23 at 3:00 p.m. against UC Merced.  This will be the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Warriors.  After UC Merced, Stan State will host Academy of Art on Wednesday, November 27 and have their CCAA opener on Saturday, November 30 against Cal State Monterey Bay.  Both of those tip-offs are set for 3:00 p.m.
