TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State (1-4) played Jessup University (3-4) tonight, narrowly missing the win 68-62. Their solid third period shows their improvement and strong performance that captured the win in Fresno.
FIRST QUARTER: Jessup got out early, taking an 8-1 lead. An assist from
Alyssa Premo aided
Da'Myiah Lewis's three to start up the Warriors' scoring. Jessup continued to keep pressure, but Stan State halted their scoring in the latter half of the period. Jumpers by
Talia Maxwell and
Krista Andersen brought Stan State within striking range.
SECOND QUARTER: Jessup started scoring in the second period once again, but Stan State drained a three of their own by
Krista Andersen. Both teams traded points for much of the second period, but
Talia Maxwell's two blocks alongside rebounds from
Jadyn Patterson and
Alyssa Premo kept Jessup from drawing away. Jessup had the final say on a jumper before heading into the third.
THIRD QUARTER: Stan State came out hungry, scoring nine unanswered points in the third period before Jessup finally responded halfway in. The Warriors continued to push, taking the lead in the second half of the period with shots from Kristen Andersen and
Kalyn Harris. Stan State shot 64.3% from the field while holding Jessup to just 27.3%.
FOURTH QUARTER: Neither team was going down without a fight and began trading points.
Da'Myiah Lewis scored seven points with
Jadyn Patterson following up with five of her own, but it was not enough to stop Jessup. It came down to the wire for Jessup to claim the game 68-62.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Da'Myiah Lewis made her presence known with another double-double tonight in back-to-back games. Lewis led the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds, with all rebounds being defensive, showing her ability to play both sides of the ball.
COMBINED IMPACT: Jadyn Patterson scored 11 points of her own but had six assists on the night to aid Warrior scoring overall.
Krista Andersen recorded a season-high of 10 points tonight along with three assists.
Talia Maxwell's nine rebounds, five blocks, and two steals showed great defensive play, which she combined with eight points.
UP NEXT: Stan State will have their CCAA opener against Cal State Monterey Bay (1-3) with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off before they begin a four-game road trip.
