HAYWARD, Calif.--- Stan State Warriors saw their six-match unbeaten streak snapped today in a 1-0 conference road loss to Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, calif. With the loss, the Warriors fall into seventh place in the CCAA standings but remain alive for the six-team CCAA Soccer Championships. They are just two points out of the sixth spot.
FIRST HALF: Cal State East Bay (5-7-4, 4-3-3 CCAA) recorded the first two shot attempts of the match including Alan Gutierrez's shot on goal attempt that was stopped by
Angel Ruiz-Hernandez in the fifth minute. Bennett Richards' goal on a ball from George Binda gave the hosts the 1-0 lead in the 30
th minute.
Alecxander Cuellar saw his chance to tie the match at 1-1 for the Warriors be stopped by the hosts' Adan Corona in the 34
th minute. With less than a minute left in the half, Ruiz-Hernandez made another stop this time off the foot of Niek de Jong to send the match into the half with Cal State East Bay leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Thirteen minutes into the second half, the Warriors'
Marco Carbajal made a huge save of George Binda's shot on goal attempt to keep the Warriors within a goal. In the 67tth minute, Stan State (7-5-5, 3-3-4 CCAA) had three chances to tie the match at 1-1. The first coming from
Edgar Castaneda as his chance went high over the goal.
Elio Corral's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Pioneers' Adan Coronoa. The Warriors' next chance again off the foot of Corral but his shot went wide left. With 17 minutes left in the match,
Jacob Ramirez had a chance for the tying goal be stopped by Corona. The Pioneers had another chance to double their lead, but
Angel Ruiz-Hernandez stopped Aaron Farnan's shot with three minutes left in the match. The Warriors drove right down the pitch and Corono stopped Ramirez' shot on goal attempt. With the clock counting down, Corona made a key save of
Edgar Castaneda's shot on goal attempt as the Pioneers took the 1-0 victory.
SNAPPED AT SIX: The Warriors unbeaten streak was snapped at six in today's 1-0 loss at Cal State East Bay. Stan State is 3-1-3 in its last seven matches.
TWO POINTS OUT: Stan State fell into seventh place this afternoon with the loss at Cal State East Bay. Even though, the Warriors lost to the Pioneers they are still alive for the sixth and final spot for the CCAA Soccer Championships. They are just two points out of the sixth spot which is held by Cal State East Bay (15 points). The top six spots are held by Cal State L.A., Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal State Dominguez all tied for first each with 20 points. Chico State is fourth with 17 points followed by Cal State Monterey Bay in fifth with 16 points and Cal State East Bay in sixth with 15 points.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season on November 7 will receive a bid to the CCAA Soccer Championships, Nov. 10, 15-17. The first round will be held on November 10 at the sites of the number three and four seeds. The top two seeds receive a first-round bye. The semi-finals are set for November 15 in Arcata, Calif., on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt. The championship match will take place on November 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Arcata, Calif.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will return home for their final regular season match on Thursday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. against No. 21 Chico State. The Wildcats went 0-0-2 this weekend with two 1-1 draws on the road with Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Marcos.
