Warriors Stall Otters in CCAA Opener

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State (2-4, 1-0 CCAA) faced Cal State Monterey Bay (1-4, 0-1 CCAA) this afternoon, claiming the game 69-48. Talia Maxwell was just short of matching her career-high with a team-leading 25 points in today's game. Da'Myiah Lewis followed with 14 of her own, shooting 46.7% from the field, while Daja Scott-Mitchell recorded a season-high 10 points to round out the top three scorers for the Warriors.

FIRST QUARTER: The Otters got off to an early lead, but a layup from Talia Maxwell ensured the Warriors would not be left behind. Stan State continued to match shots by Cal State Monterey Bay, with four different Warriors scoring for Stan State to end the quarter down just two.
 
SECOND QUARTER: Daja Scott-Mitchell opened scoring in the second quarter with a layup before quickly scoring again to give the Warriors their first lead. Cal State Monterey Bay brought the score back in their favor with a three and a layup midway into the quarter. Stan State responded by going on an eight-point run with only two points in response from the otters to finish ahead halfway through the game.

THIRD QUARTER: Stan State continued to push their lead, with Talia Maxwell shooting 6 for 12 (50%) from the field and adding a three to that. The Warriors' defense was strong, keeping Cal State Monterey Bay to 13.3% for the quarter. They forced five turnovers while stealing another three, keeping their lead into the final quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER: The Warriors created a gap and continued to extend it, trading points but staying ahead. Stan State broke out halfway through the quarter with three layups in quick succession. From there, the Warriors played a though defense, allowing only six points in the last five minutes of the game.
 
DEFENSIVE IMPACT: Stan State kept the Otter offense to just 32.1% shooting from the field. Talia Maxwell led the team in steals with four followed closely by Jadyn Patterson with three. Daja Scott-Mitchell was the leader in rebounds with nine and Maxwell recorded eight of her own.
 
DEEP BENCH: The Warrior bench outperformed the Otters' 26-15. Daja Scott-Mitchell dropped 10 points with Alyssa Premo recording nine of her own. Amya Vangkham-Griffin put up four points as well as six rebounds to aid the Stan State win.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State begins their four-game road trip with a visit to RV Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday, December 5th with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. The Warriors travel to Carson, Calif. on Saturday, December 7th to face #18 Cal State Dominguez Hills at 1:00 p.m.
