Women's basketball starts their season in Ellensburg, Washington at the GNAC/CCAA Crossover with games on November 8th and 9th.

Warriors Head to Washington State for GNAC/CCAA Crossover

TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Stan State women's basketball team begins their regular season in Ellensburg, Washington. They head to the Nicholson Arena to play Central Washington University on Friday, November 8th at 12:30 p.m. for the GNAC/CCAA Crossover. The Warriors will also play Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday, November 9th with a 9:00 a.m. tip-off.
 
RETURNERS: The Warriors return four athletes from last year's team in sophomore guard Kalyn Harris, senior guard Da'Myiah Lewis, sophomore guard Talia Maxwell, and junior guard Jadyn Patterson.

Kalyn Harris is back for her sophomore year after playing in 26 games and starting in two in the 2023-2024 season, while shooting 40.7% on threes and recording 14 steals. Da'Myiah Lewis returns from her redshirt season to play her fourth year at Stanislaus State. In Lewis's previous seasons, she has started in 29 of the 31 games she played, averaging 40.7% from the field, recording 71 steals, and averaging 10.9 points a game over two seasons. Returning sophomore Talia Maxwell saw action in 29 games, starting in 14, averaging 4.7 points for the Warriors, and secured 106 rebounds. Jadyn Patterson returns for her junior year after playing in 33 games last season and starting in 13. Patterson recorded 160 points in the 2023-2024 season, averaging 4.3 points a game.

NEWCOMERS:  Coach Strickland welcomes newcomers in junior guard/forward Krista Andersen, sophomore forward Tia Barefield, sophomore guard Aaliyah Dias, freshman forward Quinn Garrett, junior guard/forward Alyssa Premo, senior forward Daja Scott-Mitchell, and freshman guard Amya Vangkham-Griffin. 
 
ANDERSEN: Transferred from Modesto Junior College this fall...Averaged 8.2 points, 4.4 rebounds for the Pirates during her sophomore season…Attended Oakdale High School in Oakdale, Calif.
 
BAREFIELD: Transferred from La Sierra University this fall...Averaged 4.9 points per game in 2023-24 while playing in 21 games...Graduated from Rancho Christian HS in 2023...All-Ivy League Team...Member of CIF Championship Team.

DIAS: Transferred from City College of San Francisco in the fall...Averaged 8.5 points, 2.0 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game in 2023-24...Graduated from Archbishop Riordan HS in 2023...Named MVP.
 
GARRETT: Attended Damonte Ranch High School in Reno, NV...graduated in spring 2024...Captain on the girls' basketball team...Class 4A First Team All-Region Basketball...averaged 16.5 points last season in four games...season high of 20 points.
 
PREMO:  Transferred from Sierra College in the fall...2x Player of the Week...First Team All-Conference...Second Team All State...Female Athlete of the Year...2x All-Tournament...Member of only team to have a double digit seed to make it to the State Tournament (Elite 8), made it to the Elite 8 with only 7 players...Graduated from Bishop Manogue HS in 2022...First Team All-Conference and Team Captain...Member of 2022 Regional Champions and 2022 State Runner-up Team.

WILDCATS IN REVIEW: Central Washington University will be kicking off their season with the GNAC/CCAA Crossover as well. Their 2023-2024 season saw them at a 19-12 overall record and a 10-8 record within GNAC. CWU has eleven returners, including senior Sunny Huerta who played in and started all 31 games, who secured 45 steals and averaged 17.9 points a game. Capri Sims shot an impressive 56.8% from the field in her freshman year as well as averaging 8.2 rebounds a game, playing in all 31 games last season. Central Washington averages 70.4 points a game while keeping their opponents to 65.3 points.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors trail in the all-time series with Central Washington University 2-6. Their last meeting was on neutral ground in Hayward, Calif. where Stan State fell 58-66.

NIGHTHAWKS IN REVIEW: Nine players return for Northwest Nazarene University for the 2024-2025 season. They posted a 9-15, 7-11 GNAC record in the 2023-2024 season. Kendall Clark returns for her sophomore year after recorded a 51.3% from the field and 5.1 rebounds a game. Senior Madeline Gerbers averaged 13.7 points per game and 32 steals, making her one to watch as well. The Nighthawks were outpaced by opponents last year 67.2 points to 72.3 points.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: While Northwest Nazarene leads the all-time series 8-3, Stan State has won two of the last three meetings. Last year, the two teams met on neutral ground in Hayward, Calif. as the Warriors outscored the Nighthawks 74-64.

UP NEXT: Stan State returns to the Fitzpatrick Arena on Saturday, November 16th with a 6:00 p.m. tip-off facing Academy of Art. The Warriors then go on the road for one game against Fresno Pacific (November 20th, 5:00 p.m.) before returning home for two games.
