Stan State Stuns Lumberjacks

ARCATA, Calif.--- Stan State Warriors (16-7, 9-6 CCAA) traveled to Cal Poly Humboldt (7-16, 3-12 CCAA) tonight, sweeping the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-13). Stan State continues to be dominant on the road, increasing their record to 7-2 in away matches.

FIRST SET: The first set started out as a back-and-forth contest before Humboldt pulled away with a four-point run to take the lead 9-5. Stan State responded in kind, with kills from Makenna Carrillo and Malia Tanksley plus service aces from Gabby Rawson and Shaelyn Pruiett. The Warriors closed out the set 25-20.

SECOND SET: Stan State set the pace in the second set and did not let up, leading 5-0 out of the gate. Stan State's block was on-point once again with two solo blocks by Malia Tanksley and Alex Byrd and six total blocks. The Warriors capitalized on errors by the Lumberjacks and pushed their advantage to take the set 25-16.

THIRD SET: The Lumberjacks continued to struggle in the third set while Stan State executed their offense to take the lead 9-2. The Warriors kept their foot on gas and won the set and match 25-13.

NUMBERS GAME: Makenna Carrillo had seven kills tonight with a .583 hitting percentage. Malia Tanksley led the team in kills with eight, plus two solo blocks for a career high. Alex Byrd once again made her presence known at the net with three solo blocks and two combined blocks on the night. Autumn Kirby recorded two solo blocks of her own, plus two kills and a service ace to help the Warriors' momentum. Gabby Rawson's 14 digs now put her nine digs away from breaking the all-time career record at Stan State.

Despite Kyra Slavik's six kills and .500 hitting percentage, Cal Poly Humboldt hit .000 on the night as a team. Their four blocks could not quite keep up with Stan State's 11, plus the Warriors out-served them nine service aces to four.

CCAA POSTSEASON: The Warriors continue looking towards the postseason after this win at Cal Poly Humboldt. With Cal State East Bay's loss and Sonoma State's win, Stan State currently needs to win two of their next three to make it to the playoffs safely.

UP NEXT: Stan State will be traveling to Rohnert Park, Calif. to face Sonoma State (10-11, 7-8 CCAA) on Saturday, November 9th at 1:00 p.m. The Warriors will then return home for two games to finish their regular season, first playing Cal State East Bay on Friday, November 15th at 5:00 p.m.
