Stan State Clinches Playoffs with Sweep of Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Stan State Warriors (17-7, 10-6 CCAA) played Sonoma State (10-12, 7-9 CCAA) today, winning the match 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-16). The Warriors have now clinched a spot in the CCAA playoffs with the combination of this win and Cal State East Bay's loss to Cal State San Bernardino.

FIRST SET: The Warriors started the match 4-0 with errors from Sonoma State accompanied by two service aces from Haley Burdo. The Seawolves started to get back to center, but another run on the back of four service aces by Shaelyn Pruiett extended Stan State's lead 15-5. Stan State had pulled away to far, closing out the set 25-20.

SECOND SET: The second set stayed close, all the way to a 9-9 score. Kills by Makenna Carrillo and six blocks by the team, including solo blocks from Autumn Kirby and Isabella Saucedo, ensure Stan State would take the second set 25-16.

THIRD SET: The third set opened up like the first set with a service ace from Haley Burdo. Errors once again proved costly as kills from Stan State attempted to punish the Seawolves. The Warriors also recorded four blocks to keep Sonoma State from closing the gap, with Stan State taking the set and match 25-16.

OPPRESIVE: Stan State's defense kept the sweep alive with 11 blocks for the team. Alex Byrd combined for five of them. Gabby Rawson recorded 14 digs, making her the all-time career leader in digs at Stan State.

Offensively, the Warriors matched their blocks with 11 service aces. Shaelyn Pruiett tossed five and Haley Burdo had three of her own. Isabella Saucedo was the kill leader for the Warriors with seven kills. Makenna Carrillo and Malia Tanksley both had six each.

CCAA POSTSEASON: Cal State East Bay, sixth in the CCAA standings lost to Cal State San Bernardino tonight, putting their CCAA record at 7-9. Stan State is now at 10-6 in their CCAA record, meaning they can no longer drop below sixth in the standings, clinching a playoff tournament berth. The competition for seeding is still close and will be determined by the last few games of the season.

UP NEXT: Stan State will return home for two games to finish their regular season, first playing Cal State East Bay on Friday, November 15th at 5:00 p.m., followed by Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
