Warriors Split Season Series with CSULA After 81-69 Home Loss

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Cal State L.A. outscored Stan  State 47-32 in the second half to key its 81-69 road win over the Warriors at The Fitz.  With the loss, the Warriors split the season series with the Golden Eagles.  Joia Armstrong had 17 points off the bench to lead the Warriors. Asha Walker chipped in 15 points and Mya Blake added 11 points for the hosts.
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Cal State Los Angeles (10-9, 7-7 CCAA) jumped out an early 14-6 lead in the first six minutes of the game.  The Warriors came back and cut it to 19-18 on a trey by Jadyn Patterson off a Joia Armstrong assist with 68 seconds left in the quarter.  The Golden Eagles scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 23-18 lead into the second quarter. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:  Joia Armstrong's jumper capped a quarter beginning 15-2 run by the hosts as they took a 33-25 lead.  The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 35-34 on a Gabriella Rones trey with 2:32 left in the half.  Taylor Pilot's lay-up gave the Warriors a 37-34 lead heading into the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER: Mya Blake's jumper off a pass from Taylor Pilot gave Stan State (12-12, 7-7 CCAA) a 39-34 on its first possession of the half.  Cal State Los Angeles cut the Warrior lead to 40-39 at the 7:30 mark of the quarter.  An Asha Walker trey off a pass from Aunika Hornung gave the hosts a three-point lead with six minutes to go in the third.  An Olivia Hodges' lay-up capped a 10-2 run by the Golden Eagles as they took a 54-50 lead.  They increased their lead to 59-51 on a trey by Gabriella Rones heading into the final quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  A trey by Mya Blake off a pass from Jadyn Patterson capped a 10-2 run by the hosts as they cut their deficit to 61-60 just four minutes into the final quarter.  The guests came right back and increased their lead to 70-60 with three minutes left in regulation.  Asha Walkers' two free throws cut the Warrior deficit to 75-69 with just 37 seconds to go in the game.  CSULA went six-for-six from the line down the stretch to take the 81-69 victory.
 
SIX-WAY TIE FOR FOURTH PLACE:  With the loss, Stan State falls into a six-way tie for fourth place with Cal State Los Angeles, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State East Bay all with a 7-7 CCAA record.  Cal State San Marcos holds the top spot with a 12-2 CCAA record followed by Chico State at 10-4 and Cal Poly Pomona at 9-5.
 
OFF THE BENCH:  Joia Armstrong had 17 points off the bench and grabbed six rebounds in 23 minutes.  She went eight-for-12 from the field while blocking two shots and dishing out an assist.
 
FIFTH STRAIGHT:  Asha Walker had her fifth straight game scoring in double digits iwht her 16 points.  She had two steals and four rebounds in 31 minutes of actions.
 
8/6/5/4:  Taylor Pilot scored eight points this evening to go with her six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
