TURLOCK, Calif.--- Lauryn Serda's one-out walk-off single brought in
Sasha Martello with the game-winning run in game one of today's doubleheader. With the victory, Stan State split with the No. 5 Cal State San Marcos Cougars as the guests took the night cap 8-0 (five innings).
GAME ONE: Cal State San Marcos took a 2-0 lead capped by a Jillian Albayati two-run run scoring single in the top of the first inning. Stan State (1-8, 1-3 CCAA) took a 3-2 lead with a three-run first.
Katie Thornsberry had a lead-off single and scored on a one-out single by
Mikaela Ferreira. With one out,
Payton Applequist walked to place runners on first and second.
Shelby Frutoz singled to load the bases. The Warriors took the 3-2 lead on a two-run double by
Karli DalBianco.
The Cougars tied the game with a run in the second inning, 3-3. Stan State retook the lead, 4-3, on a two-out single by Ferreira which brought in
Emily Bigley. CSUSM tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the fourth inning. The Cougars took a 5-4 lead on a two-out run scoring single by Albayati in the top of the fifth inning.
Stan State came back and won the game in its last at bat. Ferreira had a lead-off single and went to third on a one-out double by
Sasha Martello. DalBianco tied the game with single which brought in Ferreira. Martello scored the game-winning run on an infield single by Serda.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Mikaela Ferreira was three-for-four with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Karli DalBianco drove in three runs and had two hits.
Shelby Frutoz had two hits also for the Warriors.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Sasha Martello (1-1) picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.
GAME TWO: Cal State San Marcos (9-2, 3-1 CCAA) took a 4-0 lead on two two-run doubles by Jillian Albayati and Paige Donnelly. The Cougars added another run in the third and fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. CSUSM won the game in five innings after a two-run fifth inning, 8-0.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Mikaela Ferreira and
Sasha Martello each had the Warriors' hit.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Sasha Martello (1-2) suffered the loss in the start.
Victoria Alarcon and
Shelby Frutoz also pitched for the Cougars.
