TURLOCK, Calif.--- Heading into the final three games of the regular season, Stan State is one game out of fifth place and two games out of fourth place in the CCAA regular season standings. The Warriors are in a three-way tie for seventh place heading into their games at Cal State San Bernardino (Thurs., Feb. 22 at 5:30pm) and at Cal Poly Pomona (Sat., Feb. 24 at 1pm). The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth to the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships in San Bernardino, Calif., March 7-9.
STAN STATE IN REVIEW: Stan State enters its two road games this weekend with a 14-15 overall record including a 9-10 CCAA record. The Warriors sit in a three-way tie for seventh place with Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt heading into the final three games of the regular season. They are averaging 64.0 points per game while averaging 65.1 points per game.
Mya Blake leads the team with her 14.8 scoring average, 63 steals, and 49 treys made.
Liliana Marques is shooting a team best 80.9% from the line and 35.4% from three-point land. Taylor Piot leads Stan State with her 89 assists and
Lyric Richardson is shooting a team leading 46.3% from the field.
Aunika Hornung has blocked a team high 26 shots and averaging a team leading 5.7 rebounds per game.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH WAYMAN STRICKLAND: Coach Strickland enters his twelfth season at the helm of the Warrior women's basketball team. Strickland is 124-177 in his coaching stint at Stan State and the second winningest coach with his 120 victories. In 2013-14, he led the Warriors to one of the best turn-around seasons in program history, going from 2-25 to 13-13 and just missing out on the CCAA tournament. In February of 2017, the Warriors posted their first postseason victory since 1990 and advanced to the CCAA semifinals. He has coached 23 All-CCAA honorees including two First Team selections. Zahria Hendrix (2017-18) and Ana Burch (2013-14) were CCAA Freshman of the Year honorees. Prior to his arrival on the CSU Stanislaus campus, Strickland was the assistant coach for the women's basketball program at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton between 2009 and 2012. Before his at Delta College, Strickland was the varsity girls coach (2007-09) and varsity boys assistant coach (2002-07) at Stockton's Edison High School. Strickland spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia. His accolades include being named the top point guard in the Asian Basketball Championships three times (1996-98). He was the most valuable player of the 1997 Asian Basketball Championships. He was a four-year starter at the University of San Diego from 1988 to 1992, when he amassed 1,040 career points. Currently, he still holds the third spot in the USD record book with 408 assists.
HOMECOMING WEEK: Stan State went 1-1 last week during its two-game home stand. The Warriors defeated Cal Poly Humboldt 71-47 on Thursday and lost 86-63 to Chico State on Saturday. They averaged 67.0 points per game while gave up 66.5 points per game.
Mya Blake averaged 15.5 points per game followed by
Liliana Marques' 12.5 scoring average. Blake dished out six assists and Marques made a team high four treys. Blake along with
Taylor Pilot and
Joia Armstrong recorded four steals. Marques shot a team high 47% from the field.
1,000 POINTS: Mya Blake scored her 1,000
th point in the Warriors' game against Chico State this past Saturday. This season, Blake has scored 400 points in the Warriors' first 29 games. In her first two seasons of her collegiate career at San Francisco State, Blake scored 611 points to give her 1,011 for her collegiate career.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Four Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season in
Taylor Pilot,
Joia Armstrong,
Lyric Richardson, and
Talia Maxwell. Pilot recorded a double-double in the Warriors' game versus Simon Fraser on Nov. 18. Pilot scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Armstrong recorded her first double-double of the season in the Warriors' game at Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 21. She scored 21 points and 11 rebounds. She went 10-for-16 from the field, blocked five shots and made her only attempt from beyond the arc. Richardson recorded her first double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in the Warriors' victory over Cal State East Bay on Nov. 30, 2022. She went five-for-ten from the field to go with her two steals and two blocked shots. Her second double-double came in Stan State's victory at CSUMB on New Year's Eve with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She was perfect from the field going five-for-five. Maxwell recorded her first collegiate double-double in the Warriors' game against CSU San Bernardino with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Stan State junior transfer
Mya Blake was named to the Warrior Classic that took place Nov. 17-18 at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Blake led the Warriors to a 1-1 weekend while averaging 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio in the Warriors' two games. For the weekend, Blake shot 46% from the field including connecting on two of her eight attempts from beyond the arc. She was a perfect two-for-two from the line.
Liliana Marques was named to the 2023 Outrigger Hoops in Hawai'i Classic All-Tournament Team. Marques averaged 19.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in the Warriors' two games in the classic including scoring a career high 25 points in Stan State's game versus Northwestern Oklahoma State. Marques shot 48% from the field including 52.6% (10-for-19) from three-point land. The Sacramento native was four-for-six from the line to go with her three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
CCAA LEADERS: Stan State is second in blocked shots (3.59 per game), third in offensive rebounding (14.6 per game), fourth in steals (9.79 per game), fifth in turnover margin (+1.31), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (33%), and sixth in three-point field goal percentage defense (30%).
Mya Blake is fourth in the CCAA with her 64 steals, fifth in steals per game (2.3), sixth in treys made (49), and ninth in treys made per game (1.8).
Taylor Pilot is fourth in assists (89), steals (62), and steal per game (2.4). She is tied for fourth in assist/turnover ratio (+1.3) and fifth in assists/game (3.4).
Aunika Hornung is tied for third in blocked shots per game (1.2) and tied for fifth in blocked shots (26).
Joia Armstrong is tenth with her 22 blocked shots.
COYOTES IN REVIEW: Cal State San Bernardino is 12-12 overall and 10-9 in the CCAA after going 5-2 in its last seven games. The Coyotes split their two road games last week defeating SF State 72-64 and losing 66-60 at Cal State East Bay. They are averaging 63.0 points per game while giving up 63.3 points per game. Destiny Jackson leads the team with her 15.3 scoring average and 46% shooting from the field. Mia Dufresne has blocked a team leading 40 shots to go with her 7.6 rebounding average. Jaida Jackson leads CSUSB with her 66 steals and 76 assists. Samantha Henley has made a team leading 27 treys.
LAST TIME: Stan State defeated CSUSB on Jan. 20 in Turlock 74-63 as the Warriors' bench outscored the Coyotes 35-10.

BRONCOS IN REVIEW: Cal Poly Pomona enters its game against Cal State Monterey Bay with a 17-7 overall record and a 13-6 CCAA record. The Broncos are 8-2 in their last ten games including winning both games on the road at Cal State East Bay (77-56) and San Francisco Sate (83-53). Pomona is averaging 72 points per game while giving up 61.5 points per game. The Broncos are outrebounding their opponents 40.6 to 37.3. Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Kalaya Buggs (16.0 ppg), Sydney Nelson (15.0 ppg), Jeanette Fine (11.8 ppg), and Breanne Ha (10.2 ppg). Buggs leads the team with her 51 steals, 95 assists, and 80% shooting from the line. Nelson is shooting a team high 48% from the field and averaging a team leading 6.5 rebounds per game. Mydrea Moore has blocked a team high 22 shots. Andrea Stajic has connected on a team leading 56 treys and 36.6% of her attempts from beyon the arc.
