TURLOCK/MODESTO, Calif.---Â Â In a game that was played in two different places and took two day due to the weather in the Valley on Tuesday afternoon, Stan State defeated the visiting Simon Fraser Red Leafs 8-2 to split the non-conference doubleheader between the two teams.

The Warriors took a 3-0 lead after one complete inning. Â
Lauryn Serda had a lead-off double and scored on a single by
Mikaela Ferreira to advance to third on a Red Leaf error.  Ferreira scored Stan State's second run of the inning on a wild pitch.  With two outs,
Sarah Warden walked and went to second on a wild pitch. She later scored on a bases loaded single to center field by
Emily Bigley to give Stan State an early 3-0 lead.

Stan State (2-9) doubled its lead in its half of the second inning.  Serda had a lead-off double and went to third when
Sasha Martello reached on a dropped fly ball by Simon Fraser's outfielder.  On the fifth pitch she saw,
Payton Applequist hit a three-run home run over the right field fence to increase the Warriors' lead to 6-0. Â

Simon Fraser (4-7) cut the Warrior lead to 6-2 with a two-run fourth inning.  Grace McMillan had a lead-off single but was thrown out at second on she tried to steal on a throw by the Warriors' catcher Warden.  Abby McGlynn and Kristen Davyduke had back-to-back one out singles.  They both scored on a triple to right center by Cassidy Affeldt. Â

The rain came down in the top of the fifth and the game was suspended until this morning and moved to the campus of Modesto Junior College.  Stan State added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. Â
Katie Thornsberry had a lead-off single went to second when
Emily Bigley was hit by a pitch.  With one out, Serda drove home Thornsberry with a single up the middle.  Still with one out, Ferreira drove home Bigley to give the Warriors an 8-2 lead.

Simon Fraser threated to score in its half of the sixth. McGlynn had a one-out double but was stranded at third to keep the score Stan State 8, Simon Fraser 2.

The guests had another chance in the seventh when Caitlin Zagari had a lead-off single. She was stranded there as
Sasha Martello (2-2) induced the final Red Leaf batters to fly out to right, ground out to third, and ground out to short to preserve the 8-2 non-conference victory.

STAN STATE PITCHERS:Â Â Sasha Martello picked up the complete game victory. She gave up seven hits and two runs while striking out a batter.

WARRIOR HITTERS:Â Â Stan State had ten hits on the day with three Warriors with multiple-hit games in
Katie Thornsberry (two-for-two and a run scored),
Mikaela Ferreira (two-for-four with  two runs batted in and a run scored), and
Lauryn Serda (three-for-four with a run batted in and two runs scored). Â
Payton Applequist hit a three-run home run, her second of the season.

UP NEXT:  The Warriors will return to the road for a four-game CCAA series with Cal State Dominguez Hills this Friday-Saturday, February 23-24.  The series will begin with a noon starting doubleheader on Friday and conclude with an 11am starting doubleheader on Saturday in Carson.  They will return home, March 1-2, for a four-game series with Chico State.   Â
