Toros Take First Two Games of Four-Game Series with Stan State

CARSON, Calif.---  Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-3, 6-0 CCAA) took the first two games of this weekend's four-game series in Carson with Stan State 2-0 and 4-0.  The two teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting doubleheader at Toro Diamond in Carson.

GAME ONE:  Game one of today's doubleheader was a pitching duel between the two starting pitchers until the fourth inning.  Stan State had a chance to score first.  With two outs, Sasha Martello and Sarah Warden had back-to-back singles.  Payton Applequist singled to center field to load the bases, but Mariah Ramirez struck out the next Warrior batter to preserve the shutout.

In the Toros' half of the fourth, Jay Ross had a lead-off single and was pinch run for by Faith Hernandez.  With one out, Hernandez stole second and advanced to third on a single by Samantha Kwiatkowski.  After her infield single, Kwiatkowski stole second to place runners on first and second with just one out.  Kaylee Hull had a two-run single through the left side to bring in the game's first two runs which ended being the only runs of the game.

WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello (2-3) suffered the loss for the guests. She pitched six innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out one.

STAN STATE HITTERS:  Sasha Martello had two of the Warriors' five hits in the series opener.  Sarah Warden, Payton Applequist, and Karli DalBianco each had a hit too for the guests.

GAME TWO:  The Toros took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a one-out double by Ross which scored Alexis Aguado.  They added three more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead.

Stan State had a chance to cut into the deficit in the top of the seventh.  With two outs, Sasha Martello had a single and was pinch ran for by Lauryn Serda. Shelby Frutoz singled to left field to put runners on the corner.  The Toros, starter, Ashley Wies, induced the next Warrior to ground out to third to end the game with CSUDH winning 4-0.
