TURLOCK, Calif.-- Stan State saw its late second half rally fall short in an 82-77 loss to the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (18-3, 13-2 CCAA).
Mahda Fallay and
Jeremiah Jones each had 15 points to lead the way for the Warriors.
Cam Walker chipped in 12 points and
John Wade III added 10 points for the hosts.
FIRST HALF: The first minutes of the game were even until the Toros built a 22-12 lead eleven minutes into the game.
Mahda Fallay's lay-up capped an 8-0 run by the Warriors as they cut the guests lead to 22-20 with 7:23 left in the half. Two Fallay free throws tied the game at 25-25 with five minutes on the clock. Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 32-26 lead on a Jakob Alamudun lay-up. The Toros increased their lead to 38-27 with 90 seconds left in the half. A trey by
Will Chavarin off a
Tony Singleton assist capped a mini 5-0 run by the Warriors as they cut the deficit to 38-32. A free throw by Alamudun free throw gave the Toros a 39-32 lead heading in the half.
SECOND HALF: Jeremiah Jones' lay-up off a
John Wade III assist capped a 15-4 run by Stan State (6-15, 3-12 CCAA) as the Warriors took a 47-43 lead just five minutes into the new half.
Cam Walker's three off a Jones' assist increased the hosts' lead to 57-48. The Toros outscored the Warriors 26-15 in the next seven minutes to take a 69-62 lead. Three times in the next couple of minutes, the Warriors cut the deficit to give including, 74-69, on a trey by Wade with 2:45 left in regulation. Stan State tied the game at 74-74 on two free throws by
Micah Boone with 96 seconds on the clock. Jeremy Dent-Smith gave the Toros a 78-74 lead, but a Jones' trey off a Fallay pass cut the CSUDH lead to 78-77 with just 37 second to go in the game. CSUDH's Alex Garcia two free throws increased the Toros' lead to 80-77. The Warriors had a chance to tie the game, but its attempt fell short. CSUDH sealed the 82-77 vi, on two free throws by Jakob Alamudun.
BENCH: Stan State's bench outscored the Toros' 36-12. Leading the way was
Jeremiah Jones tying his career high with 15 points. He went six-for-nine from the field and three-for-five from three-point land to go with his two rebounds and three assists.
Dontrell Hewlett added eight points,
Will Chavarin had seven and
Micah Boone chipped in six points.
17/25: The Warriors had 17 assists on 25 made baskets led by
Mahda Fallay's career high four assists.
Jonathan Tchengang and
Jeremiah Jones each had three assists to go with
John Wade III and
Cam Walker each with two.
FALLAY: Mahda Fallay had a career night with 15 points in 29 minutes. He went five-for-six from the field and one-for-one from beyond the arc. The Warrior post player was four-for-seven from the line while grabbing six reobunds and dishing out four assists.
