Warriors Split Doubleheader with Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.---  Stan State split its CCAA doubleheader with the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes this afternoon taking game one 6-3, but falling 6-2 in the night cap.  Lauryn Serda drove in four runs and hit two home runs in the opener for the Warriors.  Sasha Martello picked up her sixth win of the season.  The Coyotes took the night cap 6-2.
 
GAME ONE:  The game was scoreless until the Warrior half of the fourth inning.  Sarah Warden had a lead-off single. She went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Shelby Frutoz.  Warden scored on a one-out single by Karli DalBianco to give Stan State a 1-0 lead.  Cal State San Bernardino tied the game at 1-1 on a one-out solo home run by Bri Goris.  The Warriors retook the lead on a solo home run by Lauryn Serda in the fifth inning, 2-1. 
 
The Coyotes took a 3-2 lead with a two-run lead in their half of the sixth inning.  Goris had a one-out walk.  She was pinch ran for by Natalie Bednarz who went to third on back-to-back wild pitches.  She scored on a Brooke Brazil double.  CSUSB made it 3-1 hosts on a run scoring single by Hayden Green.
 
Stan State (7-15, 6-9 CCAA) took a 6-3 lead with a four-run seventh inning.  With one out, Faith Erb and Jessica Gutierrez had back-to-back singles.  They scored on a home run over the right field fence by Serda. The guests added an insurance run on a solo home run by Mikaela Ferreira.  
 
Sasha Martello (6-4) only let one hit int eh bottom of the seventh as Stan State took the opener 6-3.
 
WARRIOR HITTERS:  Four Warriors had two hits apiece in Lauryn Serda, Mikaela Ferreira, Sasha Martello, and Sarah Warden.  Serda had four runs batted in on two home runs.  Ferreira had a solo home run for the guests.
 
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Shelby Frutoz recorded the no-decision in the start for the Warriors.  Sasha Martello picked up the win in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings and giving up just two hits.
 
GAME TWO:  Mikaela Ferreira's second home run of the day, a solo shot in the top of the first inning with one out in the night cap.  Cal State San Bernardino (13-11, 10-7 CCAA) took a 2-1 lead on a two-run home run by Bri Goris with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.
 
CSUSB doubled its lead with a two-run second inning to 4-1.  The hosts added two more runs in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
 
Lauryn Serda had a one-out single and later scored on a two-out single by Sasha Martello to make the final 6-2 Coyotes.
 
WARRIOR HITTERS:  Three Warriors had one two hits apiece in Lauryn Serda, Mikaela Ferreira, and Katie Thornsberry.  
 
STAN STATE PITCHERS:  Victoria Alarcon took the loss in the start for the Warriors.  Sasha Martello pitched 3.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out one.
 
UP NEXT:  UP NEXT:  The Warriors will return home to Warrior Field, March 21-24, when they host the 21stAnnual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock.  They will face Azusa Pacific (March 22, 11:30am), Central Washington (March 22, 4:30pm), Hawai'i Hilo (March 23, 4:30pm), and Dominican (March 24, noon). This weekend's first game was postponed due to field conditions will be made up a later date.
