TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State pounded out 20 hits and scored 15 runs to key its 15-2 victory over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers. Eight Warriors had multiple-hit games led by the trio of
Kyle Rachels, Alexi Solis, and
Flavio Perez who each had three hits apiece.
Austin Balentine (4-1) recorded the win in the start for the Warriors.
Kyle Rachels had a one-out single. He went to second on a balk and scored on an
Alex Solis single. Solis advanced on a two-base fielding error by the Pioneers. He scored on a
Tyler Van Dyk sacrifice fly to give Stan State a 2-0 lead.
The Warriors doubled their lead to 4-0 with a two-run third inning. They added another run in the sixth on a two-out run scoring single by
Alex Solis that drove in
Robert Valdivia to increase their lead to 5-0.
Cal State East Bay (12-13, 4-9 CCAA) cut the deficit to 5-2 with two runs in the seventh. Brenden Bell had a solo home run to key the Pioneer two-run inning.
Stan State (9-14-1, 5-10 CCAA) broke the game open with a seven-run seventh inning.
Chris Catalano had a lead-off single and scored when
Flavio Perez reached on a three-base error.
Mac Cabero walked and scored on a three-run home run by
Danny Murphy. With one out,
Robert Valdivia singled and scored on a two-run home run by Rachels to increase the Warriors' lead to 11-2.
They added four more runs in the eighth inning. Perez had a lead-off single, went to second when Cabero walked. Murphy had a single to load the bases. With no outs, Perez and Perez scored on a two-run double by
Jackson Brooks. With two outs,
Cooper Winton drove home Brooks and Murphy to make the score 15-2 hosts.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Alex Solis was three-for-five- with three runs batted in and scored twice.
Kyle Rachels was three-for-five with two runs and two runs batted in and a home run.
Flavio Perez was three-for-six with two runs scored.
Jackson Brooks,
Danny Murphy,
Chris Catalano, and
Tyler Van Dyk each had two hits. Murphy also had a home run and Perez and Brooks each had a double.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Austin Balentine (4-1) pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three and walking none.
Noah Chelberg pitched to scoreless innings while striking out one.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns to the diamond tomorrow for a 1pm starting doubleheader with Cal State East Bay. The two teams will finish off the series on Sunday with a noon starting single game.
