TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State split its doubleheader with the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers this afternoon losing the opener 5-2 and taking the night cap 3-1.
Caleb Bertoncini picked up the win in first start of the season in the night cap by striking out a season high eight batters.
Noah Chelberg recorded his first save of the season by pitching 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out four.
GAME ONE: Luke Novistske's solo home run gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The guests doubled their lead on a Matthew O'Mahoney run scoring double. They added three more runs with a three run second inning keyed by a run scoring Novitske single.
Stan State cut the Pioneer lead to 5-1 in its half of the second inning.
Jackson Brooks drove in
Chris Catalano run scoring double. The Warriors cut the deficit to 6-2 on a sacrifice fly by
Kyle Rachels which drove in
Mac Cabero. That is the closest that the hosts would get as East Bay took the 5-2 opener.
HITTERS: Chris Catalano had two of the Warriors' seven hits.

JD Madrigal had the other four Stan State hits.
PITCHERS: Kody Cardoza suffered the loss in the start for the Warriors.
Patrick Sweeney pitched seven scoreless innings, walking three and striking out three.
GAME TWO: Stan State (10-15-1, 6-11 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in its half of the third inning.
Kyle Rachels drove in
Mac Cabero with a sacrifice fly. The Warriors added another run in the third when
Robert Valdivia scored when
Alex Solis reached on a two-base error.
The hosts increased their lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.
Flavio Perez drove home in
Danny Murphy with a double. Cal State East Bay (13-14, 5-10 CCAA) cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the sixth inning.
Caleb Bertoncini (1-0) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up four this and a run while striking out eight and walking two.
Noah Chelberg recorded his first save by pitching 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and striking out four.
Four Warriors had one hit apiece in
