Stan State Sweep Wildcats 2-1, 3-2

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State swept a pair of one-run games this afternoon in the first two games of the four-game series with the visiting Chico State Wildcats.  The Warriors took game one 2-1 behind the performance of Sasha Martello.  The junior transfer pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless innings of relief, giving up three hits and striking out one while hitting a solo home run.  In the night cap, Marissa Cerda's two-out single drove in Sarah Warden the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth for the hosts. 
 
GAME ONE:  Stan State (4-13, 3-7 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead on a one-out solo home run by Sasha Martello in the Warriors' half of the first inning.  Chico State tied the game at 1-1 in its half of the fifth inning.  Tayler Berens had a lead-off double and later scored on a passed ball. 
 
The Warriors retook the lead, 2-1, with a run in their half of the fifth inning.  Jessica Gutierrez had a lead-off single and scored on a two-out run scoring double by Mikaela Ferreira
 
Chico State twice had a chance to tie the game in the final innings including in the seventh.  Mia Santos had a lead-off single and went to second on a ground out.  She was stranded their as Martello induced the next batter to ground out to first to end the game and preserve the 2-1 Warrior victory.
 
STAN STATE HITTERS:  The Warriors had six hits in the opener with six different players with one hit apiece in Jessica Gutierrez, Sasha Martello, Mikaela Ferreira, Sarah Warden, Payton Applequist, and Karli DalBianco.  Martello had a solo home run.  Gutierrez scored a run and Ferreira drove in a run.
 
WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello (3-4) pitched three scoreless innings of relief, giving up three hits and striking out one.  Victoria Alarcon recorded the no-decision, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up eight hits and a run while striking out one.
 
GAME TWO:  The nightcap was scoreless until the Warrior half of the fifth.  Karli DalBianco had a lead-off walk and advanced to second on a Marissa Cerda sacrifice bunt.  Jessica Gutierrez and Sasha Martello had back-to-back lead-off singles to load the bases.  With one out, Mikaela Ferreira drove in DalBianco to give Stan State the 1-0 lead. 
 
Chico State (3-10, 3-7 CCAA) took a 2-1 lead with a two-run sixth inning.  Ali Lewis had a one-out solo home run to left field to tie the game at 1-1.  Hannah Levy reached on a fielding error by Stan State.  She later scored on a two-out single by Lily Cante to give the visitors the 2-1 lead. 
 
In the Warrior seventh, Gutierrez reached base when she was hit by a pitch with one out.  She scored on a two-out double by Ferreira to tie the game at 2-2. The game remained tied at 2-2 until the Warrior half of the eighth inning.  Sarah Warden had a lead-off double. With two outs,
DalBianco walked.  Cerda hit the third pitch she saw for a single up the middle to bring in Warden with the game-winning run and give Stan State the 3-2 victory.
 
STAN STATE HITTERS:  Mikaela Ferreira had two of the Warriors' six hits.  She drove in two runs.  Four other Warriors had one hit apiece in Jessica Gutierrez, Sasha Martello, Sarah Warden, and Marissa Cerda.
 
WARRIOR PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello (4-4) picked up her second consecutive win in relief in the nightcap.  She pitched five innings of relief, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned).  Shelby Frutoz pitched three innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out in recording the no-decision. 
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State and Chico State will finish off the four-game series on Monday, March 4 for a 11am starting doubleheader.
