TURLOCK, Calif.---Stan State split the weekend conference series with the visiting SF State Gators by splitting today's doubleheader. The Warriors took game one today 5-4, but SF State took the night cap 4-1. Stan State pounded out eleven hits and scored five runs.
Sasha Martello picked up the victory while
Victoria Alarcon recorded the save. The Gators took the night cap 4-1 behind the pitching of Elise Roy.
GAME ONE: Stan State (12-18, 8-11 CCAA) took a 4-0 lead with a four-run first inning on five hits and one Gator error.
Jessica Gutierrez had a lead-off double followed by a
Lauryn Serda single.
Mikaela Ferreira drove in Gutierrez with a single to left center. With one out,
Karli DalBianco reached on an error which Serda scored the hosts' second run.
Sarah Warden walked to load the bases. Ferreira scored on one-out infield single by
Marissa Cerda. Stan State took a 4-0 lead on a one-out single by
Katie Thornsberry that drove in DalBianco.
The Warriors added a key insurance run in their half of the second inning. Ferreira had a two-out single which she went to second on a Gator error. She scored on a single by
Sasha Martello to increase the Warrior lead to 5-0.
SF State cut the Warrior lead to 5-2 with a two-run fourth inning. The Gators made it interesting in their last at bat. Lexi Holihan had a lead-off double and went to third when Mia Misasi reached on an error. She scored on a double by pinch-hitter Shaunessy Cardwell. Misasi scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Marissa Jordan to cut the Warrior lead to 5-4. With two outs, Stan State reliever
Victoria Alarcon induced the final Gator batter to fly out to
Marissa Cerda in left field to preserve the 5-4 Warrior victory.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Stan State had eleven hits in the opener led by
Mikaela Ferreira who went three-for-three with two runs scored and a run batted in and a double.
Jessica Gutierrez was two-for-three and a run scored while
Marissa Cerda was two-for-three with a run batted in.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Sasha Martello (9-4) picked up the victory by pitching six innings, giving up nine hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out one and walking one (her first one all season).
Victoria Alarcon recorded her first save by pitching a scoreless inning of relief and striking out one.
GAME TWO: The night cap was scoreless until the Gator half of the third inning. Kai DeLeon drew a one-out walk. She went to third on a one-out double by Marley Gonzalez. DeLeon scored on an infield single by Daniella Guerra to give SF State (14-17, 10-10 CCAA) a 1-0 lead.
The guests took a 4-0 lead with a three-run fourth inning. Lexi Holihan had a lead-off home run over the left field fence. With one out, Samy Vargas had a single and was pinch run for by Emily Madrigal who scored on a one-out double by Mia Misasi. With two outs, Misasi scored on a single by Gonzalez.
Stan State cut the deficit to 4-1 with a run in the sixth inning.
Marissa Cerda had a two-out single and scored on a
Katie Thornsberry triple. Elise Roy shut the Warriors in order in the seventh as the Gators took the night cap 4-1.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Stan State had seven hits in the night cap led by
Marissa Cerda's three hit game. Four other Warriors had a hit apiece in
Mikaela Ferreira,
Sarah Warden,
Katie Thornsberry, and
Faith Erb.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon (1-6) suffered the loss in the start.
Shelby Frutoz pitched four innings of relief while striking out four.
UP NEXT: Stan State will end its season-long twelve-game home stand this Friday-Sunday, April 5-7 host Cal Poly Humboldt in a four-game CCAA series. The series will begin with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader on Friday and conclude with an 11:00 a.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday.
