TURLOCK, Calif.--- Victoria Alarcon pitched a five-hit complete game shutout in Stan State's 2-0 night cap victory over Cal Poly Humboldt to split the first two games of this weekend's four-game series between the two teams. The Lumberjacks took the opener, 6-1.
GAME ONE: The opener was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning.
Katie Thornsberry had a lead-off single. She later scored on a one-out single by
Lauryn Serda to give Stan State a 1-0 lead.
Cal Poly Humboldt (18-18, 8-11 CCAA) took a 3-0 lead on a one-out three-run home run by Izzy Starr in the Jack half of the fifth inning. The visitors doubled their lead to 6-1 on a bases clearing one-out double by Starr.
Gaige Garcia shut down the Warriors in the final innings to secure the Jack 6-1 game one victory.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Sasha Martello (9-5) took the loss in the start while
Shelby Frutoz also pitched for the Warriors.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Lauryn Serda had two of the Warriors' four hits and drove in their lone run.
GAME TWO: Game two of the weekend's four-game series was pitching duel until the Warrior half of the fifth inning.
Katie Thornsberry drew a one-out walk. She went to second when
Payton Applequist was hit by a pitch. She scored on a two-out infield single by
Faith Erb to give Stan State (13-19, 9-12 CCAA) a 1-0 lead.
The hosts doubled their lead in the sixth inning.
Lauryn Serda had a lead-off single. She stole second and scored on a
Sasha Martello single to double the hosts' lead to 2-0.
Shelby Shanks had a lead-off double for the Jacks in the top of the seventh. She went to third on a pop out to left field. Shanks was stranded there as Alarcon induced the next Jacks to foul out and ground out to second to preserve the Warriors' 2-0 victory.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon (2-6) recorded the complete game five-hit shutout. She gave walked two and struck out two.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Four Warriors had one hit apiece in
Lauryn Serda,
Sasha Martello,
Payton Applequist, and
Faith Erb. Serda and Thornsberry scored the Warriors' runs and Erb and Martello drove the runs in for Stan State.
