TURLOCK, Calif.--- In thanks to
Shelby Frutoz's two-hit complete game shutout victory in game one this afternoon, Stan State split their four-game series with the visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks. The Warriors took the opener 1-0, but the lost the series finale 4-0.
GAME ONE: Today's opener was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning.
Faith Erb had a lead-off single. She went to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jessica Gutierrez. She advanced to third on a ground out by
Lauryn Serda.
Mikaela Ferreira and
Sasha Martello had back-to-back two out walks. Pinch hitter
Payton Applequist drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Erb with what was the game-winning run.
In the Jacks' half of the seventh, Shelby Shanks was hit by a pitch with one out. She went to third on a double by Sadie Hampton. Warrior starter,
Shelby Frutoz, induced the next Jack batter to ground out the third. She induced the final Jack batter to pop out to second to preserve the Warrior 1-0 victory.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Shelby Frutoz (3-8) recorded the complete game two-hit shutout. She struck out five and walked two for Stan State (14-20, 10-13 CCAA)
STAN STATE HITTERS: Six different Warriors had one hit apiece in

Katie Thornsberry,
Sarah Warden,
Marissa Cerda, and
Faith Erb.
GAME TWO: Cal Poly Humboldt (18-19, 8-12 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of the night cap. Alyssa Ramirez had a one-out single and went to second on a wild pitch. She went to third on a single by Vanessa Saltos and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Smokey.
Humboldt added three runs in the seventh including two on a Shanks two-run single as the Jacks took the series finale, 4-0.
WARRIOR PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon (2-7) suffered the loss in the start. She pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out three.
STAN STATE HITTERS: Mikaela Ferreira and
Faith Erb each went two-for-three for the Warriors.
UP NEXT: Stan State will travel to Seaside, Calif., this Friday-Saturday, April 12-13 for a four-game series with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Warriors will return home for a four-game series with Sonoma State, April 19-20. Prior to the doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, the Warriors will recognize their two seniors in
Faith Erb and
Mikaela Ferreira.
