TURLOCK, Calif.--- Sonoma State (25-15, 18-10 CCAA) took the first two games of this weekend's four-game CCAA series this afternoon 6-1 and 8-7 in eleven innings. The two teams will conclude the four-game series tomorrow in an 11:00 a.m. starting doubleheader at Warrior Field. Prior to the game at 10:45 a.m., Stan State will recognize its two seniors in
Faith Erb and
Mikaela Ferreira.
GAME ONE: Sonoma State took a 1-0 lead in the opener in its half of the second inning. Taylor Rapp led off the inning with a single. She later scored on a single by Kaiya Dickens. The Seawolves took a 3-0 lead after a two-run home run by Giana Hays in the top of the third inning.
The guests added two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Hays two-out run scoring double increased Sonoma's lead to 6-0 in the top of the sixth.
Stan State cut the deficit to 6-1 with a run in the sixth inning.
Mikaela Ferreira drew a one-out walk. She scored on a two-out double by
Karli DalBianco.
Sonoma reliever, Charlie Johnston, shut down the Warriors in the seventh to preserve the 6-1 Seawolf victory.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Karli DalBianco had two of the Warriors' four hits.
Sasha Martello and
Katie Thornsberry each had a hit.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon (3-9) suffered the loss in the start for the hosts.
Sasha Martello also pitched for the Warriors.
GAME TWO: Sonoma State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in the night cap. Stan State (16-24, 12-17 CCAA) scored five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead on just two hits.
Lauryn Serda walked and went to second when
Mikaela Ferreira was hit by a pitch. With one out,
Karli DalBianco drove in Serda with a single down the left field line. Ferreira scored on an infield single by
Payton Applequist to tie the game at 2-2. DalBianco scored when
Marissa Cerda reached on a fielder's choice as the hosts took a 3-2 lead. Stan State added two more runs when
Faith Erb reached on a Seawolf error as the hosts took a 5-2 lead.
Sonoma State cut the Warrior lead to 5-3 on a Giana Hays' sacrifice fly in the Seawolf second inning. The Seawolves scored three runs in the top of the third inning capped by a two-out two-run double by Anna Zoia-Buesche to take a 6-5 lead. The Seawolves added another run in the fifth to increase their lead to 7-5.
Stan State tied the game with a two-run seventh inning. Serda had a lead-off single, but was out at second when Ferreira reached on a fielder's choice.
Sasha Martello drove home Ferreira with a double to left field.
Katie Thornsberry came in to pinch run for Martello. With two outs, Thornsberry scored the tying run on a single by
Shelby Frutoz to send the game into extra-innings.
The game remained tied until the Seawolf top of the eleventh. Jasmine Moreno had a lead-off single. She scored on a one-out double by Skylar Linnane to give the guests an 8-7 lead.
Stan State had a chance to tie the game in its half of the eleventh. With two outs, Martello singled to center field but was stranded there as Sonoma took the night cap 8-7 in eleven innings.

Jessica Gutierrez.

STAN STATE PITCHERS: Shelby Frutoz recorded the no-decision in the start for the Warriors.
Sasha Martello (10-6) suffered the loss, pitching 6.1 relief innings, giving up four hits and a run.
STILL ALIVE: Stan State is still alive for the six-team CCAA Softball Championships, May 1-14 at Cal State San Marcos. The Warriors are in eighth place just .086 points out of sixth place. The top six teams as of this evening are Sonoma State, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal Poly Humboldt. The final four teams who are all still alive with seven games left in the regular season are Cal State East Bay, Stan State, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Chico State.
