GREENSBORO, NC--- As announced today, Stan State's baseball team were named recipients of the 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack. The Warriors, coached by
Kenny Leonesio, have received this honor for the last three years in a row.
To earn this honor, a team must post a cumulative grade point average over a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Stan State was one of Nearly 350 high school programs and more than 470 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award. The Warriors were one of four institutions from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) that received this award including Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State East Bay, and San Francisco State.
Earlier this month, six Warriors were named to the CCAA Spring Academic Honor Roll in
Mac Cabero,
Noah Chelberg,
Ryan Leonesio,
Danny Murphy,
Patrick Sweeney,
Robert Valdivia, and
Tyler Van Dyk. These six were named recipients of the CCAA All-Academic Team that was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Back in May, five Stan State student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators in Cabero, Chelberg, and Sweeney, along with
Chris Catalano and
Kyle Rachels.
