TURLOCK, Calif.-- Stan State recorded a 1-0 shutout over the visiting Western Oregon Wolves this evening in the Warriors' home opener of the 2024 regular season.
Natalia Ochoa recorded five saves en route to the shutout in goal for the hosts.
Aliah Avila scored the game-winner in the 63
rd minute off a through ball from
Kaley Miller.
FIRST HALF: The hosts had a chance to take a 1-0 lead in the 20
th minute, but Sophia Pierce stopped
Jocelin Roa's shot on goal attempt. Stan State (2-1) had two more chances to take the lead but both sailed over the net in
Kaley Miller and
Haylee Sousa's attempts in the 24
th minute. Western Oregon saw its attempt for the lead be stopped by
Natalia Ochoa int eh 27
th minute off the foot of Alyna Slater. The hosts had one more chance for the lead, but Miller's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Pierce to send the match scoreless into the half.
SECOND HALF: Early in the second half, Miller had another chance for the Warriors, but Pierce made another stop. The Warriors took the 1-0 lead in the 63
rd minute when
Aliah Avila connected on her second goal of the season off a pass from Miller. Ochoa made one of her five saves on the night stopping Lauren Rose's shot attempt in the 77
th minute. The Wolves had one final chance to tie the match when Ochoa made her fifth and final save stopping Ciara Garcia's shot attempt in the 88
th minute as the Warriors took the 1-0 victory.
