TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State scored two goals within two minutes of one another to key its second half rally to defeat the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders 2-1 this evening in a non-conference match-up at Warrior Stadium.
Jocelin Roa scored the Warriors' first goal in the 82
nd minute with
Shauna Johnston scoring the game-winner in the 84
th minute.
Aliah Avila assisted on both Warriors' goals.
FIRST HALF: Jocelin Roa had the match's first chance for a goal be stopped by the Raiders' Ashlynn Hernandez in the fifth minute. Stan State had another chance in the 13
th minute, but
Kaia Mills' attempt sailed over the net.
Haylee Heffner had two chances be stopped in the 25
th minute by Hernandez to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead. Southern Oregon (3-1) took the 1-0 lead in the 33
rd minute when Skyler Coleman scored a goal after the Warriors'
Malia Allen stopped Kaylah Bresee's attempt. Stan State had two chances to tie the match late in the half once by
Arionna Imhoff and the other by
Aliah Avila, but both were stopped by the Raiders' keeper.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors came out of the locker room with a surge. Just five minutes into the half,
Francesca Hahn's shot attempt was stopped by Hernandez. One minute later,
Haylee Sousa saw her chance to tie the match be stopped by Hernandez. In the 52
nd minute, Imhoff had another chance for the game-tying goal but Hernandez made the save. The score remained 1-0 Raiders until the 82
nd minute when Roa connected on her second goal of the season on an assist from Avila. Just two minutes later,
Shauna Johnston connected on the game-winner off a cross from Avila to give the Warriors the 2-1 lead. Roa had a chance to double the hosts' lead, but it sailed to the left of the goal as they took the 2-1 non-conference victory.
2-0 WEEKEND: Stan State (3-1) finished its weekend 2-0 defeating a pair of teams from Oregon in Western Oregon (1-0) and Southern Oregon (2-1).
Aliah Avila scored the game-winner in the Warriors' win over Western Oregon on Thursday and she assisted on both of Stan State's goals against Southern Oregon.
Shauna Johnston recorded her first game-winner of the season in the Warrior win over Western Oregon.
Jocelin Roa scored Stan State's other goal of the weekend and
Kaley Miller had an assist.
GOALIES: Malia Allen had one save in tonight's win over Southern Oregon and gave up the goal.
Natalia Ochoa had five saves in Stan State's 1-0 win over Western Oregon on Thursday.
UP NEXT: Stan State continues its four-match home stand this Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. on Golden Valley Health Center Night at Warriors Stadium when the Warriors host Westmont. They will conclude the home stand with a 7:00 p.m. match on Monday, September 23 against Biola.
