Warriors Begin Regular Season, 1-1

BURNABY, B.C.---  Simon Fraser used two first half to key its 2-0 victory over Stan State this afternoon at SFU Stadium at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby, British Columbia. The Warriors (1-1) recorded nine shot attempts including seven in the second half.  Of those seven shot attempts, four were on goal. Stan State finished its two-match road trip, 1-1.

FIRST HALF:  Simon Fraser (2-0) had a chance to take the early lead in the third minute, when the Warriors' Malia Allen stopped Kaiden Sherwood's shot on goal attempt.  Nine minutes later, Stan State had to chance to take the 1-0 lead, but Jocelin Roa's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Red Leaf's Sarah Loewen.  Three minutes later, the hosts took the 1-0 lead when Raegan McKenzie connected on a ball from Isabella Muzzolini.  Simon Fraser doubled its lead to 2-0 when Sarah Caravatta connected on a penalty kick in the 35th minute.  The Warriors had a chance to cut into the lead when Aliah Avila's shot went wide right of the goal to send the match in the final seconds of the half.

SECOND HALF: In the 64th minute, it looked like Stan State was cut the deficit in half when Arionna Imhoff's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Loewen.  Two minutes later, Makeila Yancey had chance for the Warriors' first goal of the match but once again Loewen snagged the Stan State attempt to cut into the Red Leaf lead. Stan State had another chance to score be stopped by Loewen, this time a shot by Kellyann Rodriguez.  The Warriors had their final chances go wide of the net in the final minutes one by Imhoff and the other by Kaley Miller as Simon Fraser took the 2-0 non-conference victory.

9/7:  Of the Warriors' nine shot attempts for the match seven came in the second half.  Four of those were shot on goal attempts.  For the match, Arionna Imhoff had three of the Warriors' shot attempts including one on goal followed by Makeila Yancey with two shot on goal attempts.  Jocelin Roa and Kellyann Rodriguez each had one shot on goal attempt.  Aliah Avila and Kaley Miller each had Stan State's shot attempts.
