TURLOCK, Calif.--- After starting the season 1-1, Stan State will begin a four-match home stand this weekend with a pair of matches this Thursday and Sunday, September 12 and 15. The Warriors will host Western Oregon this Thursday, September 12 on Latin X/Hispanic Appreciation Night. Stan State will end the weekend this Sunday, September 14 hosting Southern Oregon on Team Poster Night. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.
THE WARRIORS: Stan State went 1-1 in its opening weekend of the 2024 regular season. The Warriors started off the season this past Thursday with a 3-1 victory at Saint Martin's Three different Warriors scored goals in
Jocelin Roa,
Aliah Avila, and
Haylee Heffner. Recording assists for the victors were Heffner,
Arionna Imhoff, and
Kyndra Obermeyer. Stan State finished the weekend with a 2-0 loss at Simon Fraser in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Natalia Ochoa and
Malia Allen each saw time in goal for the Warriors. Ochoa and Allen each played in 90 minutes and combined had a 1.50 goals against average with four saves.
WESTERN OREGON: The Wolves are 0-0-2 after their two home matches over the weekend. They tied UC Colorado Springs 1-1 in their regular season home opener on Thursday before playing to a scoreless tie with MSU Denver on Sunday. Ciara Garcia scored their goal against UCCS and Lilly Nawatzke assisted on that goal. Sophia Pierce posted a 0.50 goals against average with four saves and a .800 saves percentage.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Wolves 4-1-1. Western Oregon defeated the Warriors 1-0 on Sept. 1, 2023, in Monmouth, Ore. Emma Higashi scored the goal for the Wolves with Sophia Pierce recording five saves in goal. Stan State last defeated the Wolves 2-0 in 2016 in Turlock.
SOUTHERN OREGON: The Raiders are 3-0 after defeating Arizona Christian 3-1 on August 29. They begin the season with a 1-0 victory over Simpson (August 22) and 6-0 win over Pacific Union (August 26). Ava Johnson and Cora Thorndike lead the way for SOU with their respectively three goals and two goals. Frida Vargas has a team leading three assists. Ashlynn Hernandez has a .857 saves percentage with six saves and only has given up one goal in the Raiders' first three matches.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors lead the all-time series 6-0 with Southern Oregon. Stan State defeated the Raiders last season in Turlock 2-1 behind the goals of
Marivic Lek-Miro and
Kayla Perez.
Natalia Ochoa had three saves in goal for the Warriors.
UP NEXT: After Sunday's match with Southern Oregon, the Warriors will continue their four-match home stand with a pair of matches September 20 and 23. They will face Westmont on September 20 and Biola on September 23. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.
