Warriors’ Second Half Surge Not Enough in 79-69 Loss to East Bay

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State outscored its visitors, Cal State East Bay Pioneers, 37-32 in the second half but that wasn't enough as the Warriors lost 79-69 this evening in a CCAA game at The Fitz.  Cameron Walker and Jeremiah Jones each had 14 points to lead the Warriors.  Recording his second double-double of the season was Daniei Ameyaw with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

FIRST HALF:  A three by Ramsey Huff gave Cal State East Bay an early 16-6 lead in the first six minutes of the game.  The Pioneers increased their lead to 33-13 with nine minutes left in the half.  Jeremiah Jones' lay-up capped 6-0 run by the Warriors as they cut their deficit to 33-19 with six minutes left in the first stanza.  DJ Sanders' lay-up with 2:27 left on the clock gave Cal State East Bay (8-11, 6-7 CCAA) a 46-26 lead.  Stan State ended the half on a 6-1 run capped by two Jones' free throws to cut the Pioneer lead to 47-32 heading into the locker room.

SECOND HALF:  Stan State (8-11, 5-8 CCAA) started the second half on a 10-4 run capped by a Cameron Walker trey off a Jeremiah Jones to cut the deficit to single digits, 51-42, three minutes into the new half.  The Warriors' kept their run going and cut the Pioneer lead to 53-47 on a Lloyd French free throw with 13:41 on the clock.  Cal State East Bay followed that Warrior run with a 18-3 of its own to take a 71-50 lead with six minutes left in regulation.  A Jeremiah Jones' trey capped a 19-6 run by the Warriors as they cut the Pioneer lead to 77-69 with 37 seconds to go in the game.  Payden White's two free throws sealed the 79-69 victory for the visitors. 

NUMBER FIVE:  Daniel Ameyaw recorded his fifth double-double of his career and second of the season this evening.  The junior post player scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with his two assists in 27 minutes.

OVER 700:  With his 14 points this evening, Jeremiah Jones has scored 711 points in his career at Stan State.  Jones now has scored in double figures in 18 straight games for the Warriors this season.  He is averaging 18.5 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the field.

JUST 5:  Stan State missed just of its attempts from the line as the Warriors went 19-for-24.  Jason Zimmer and Jeremiah Jones each went four-for-four from the line.  Cameron Walker and Jonathan Tchengang each were two-from-two from the charity stripe.  Lloyd French was three-for-five and Daniel Ameyaw was four-for-six.

50% The Warriors were eight-for-16 from three-point land this evening led by Cameron Walker who went four-for-seven from beyond the arc.  Jeremiah Jones was two-for-four while Jason Zimmer was one-for-two and Jason Cibull connected on his only attempt from three-point range.

ONE-GAME OUT OF FIFTH:  With their loss this evening, Stan State is one-game out of fifth place which Cal State East Bay, Cal State Los Angeles, and San Francisco State are all tied each with a 6-7 CCAA record.  The Warriors are tied for eighth place with Cal Poly Pomona.

UP NEXT:  Stan State will end its four-game home stand this Saturday, February 1 at 3:00 p.m. on Golden Valley Health Center Day when the Warriors host SF State.  The Gators defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 77-72 in overtime this evening in Seaside.  Earlier this season on January 9, Stan State defeated the Gators 67-55.
